To feel drained by it all

Recently I started a new job.my old workplace had cut me back to 32 from 45 all summer when they took one family friend.I saw this as an opportunity to give notice and move to another place all left on good terms.
The new place had more workload than anticipated and I was doing nearer 60 hrs in a physical role.U nexpectedly I was offered a job I previous!y did many years ago for many years with more money.and better work life. balance.
I told my new boss who took it personally and said although i only needed to give nil notice he expected a few weeks minimum. I offered a week as my new position want me to do my induction.
I have had an u pleasant text message.I now have a nasty flu like bug and haven't got dressed since Thur eve when I got home. I have lost weight and feel dreadful I can barely stay awake and slept most of Christmas day.
I k ow Christmas is a bad time to leave a job and have never left one after a few weeks aibu to feel so bad.

Do not feel guilty.

Did they understate the hours? You didn't sign up to work 60 hours per week so this is your employer's fault for mis-selling you the job.

Ignore the old employer. If you are not legally obliged to give more notice, tough luck on them.

YANBU - if they 'expected a few weeks' notice, they should have put that into your contract.

Ignore the spiteful text message and concentrate on getting well.

New boss needs to take it on the chin. The first few months in a new job are basically an audition, for both parties. You've done nothing wrong (and more fool him for 'expecting' you to give a minimum notice of a random amount of time which is not in your contract and of which you were not even aware. Would they have done the same for you? Er, no.)

Personally, I'd respond to the unpleasant message saying that you have reconsidered your goodwill offer of serving a week's notice and are giving your nil notice now with immediate effect.

Then let the new boss know you've got flu. You are obviously in demand so you'll be fine.

Thank you all you be cheered me up.Thirty plus yes in the industry I have missed most Xmas s birthdays easter etc and only had to quit a job once yes ago as I returned to quickly after sick leave.
The odd thing is this job was offered with immediate start so I could only give a weeks notice to start there!!.it was a 40 hour contract.nil notice either side then a week thereafter.Even my new position is a week in the first three months trial.
I pointed out letting the senior to me take ten days leave was unheard of in our line of work and someone else has honoured holdidays over Xmas.I never filled in my acceptance letter or gave any written contract in.I pointed out the recruit meant was misleading with regards to job discription.
My new boss can't wait for me to rejoin the company.
I do feel bad as I feel quite I'll.
I do have two referee managers who can vouch for my reliability and hardworking nature though.

Run rabbit I kind of have by unexpectedly becoming I'll !! Also I always face any unpleasantness head on with a smile however no one was speaking much as I said I was leaving and the owner saying I behaved appallingly made me feel bad.I didn't know these pole three weeks ago so long term it won't affect me.It is a genuine change of heart.

I didn't want to leave on a bad note as I live very nearby.However his compromise of 2 1\2 weeks would leave me tired and lacking some of my induction before the guy I'm replacing leaves.Thanks mumsnet for making me feel better.

If necessary, remind him that he presumably put you on a no notice contract so he could get rid of you without notice. He didn't foresee the alternative version.

Get well soon and make sure you have a more satisfactory contract in place in your new job.

I do Every eventuality is covered in the contract even the rare chance the work dries up (which it won't) .
He told me the job offer was a firm one....like you say he would have pointed out the nil notice part if he hadn't liked me.I offered a couple of days pay to cover training which he declined.Their loss as I was willing to do a week now I've only done a couple of days before falling I'll .
