AIBU?

To not want to be ravenously hungry at Christmas?

Staying with DH's family who are a bit weird about food.

We had a one-course Christmas lunch yesterday about 3pm, after which everyone declared themselves too stuffed to contemplate pudding.

It is now 11:30am the next morning and not a mince pie crumb, not a chocolate matchstick has been available for consumption since. There has been some vague talk about breakfast which has been on-going for hours with nothing whatsoever being done about it.

I am so hungry right now I am shaking.

To make matters worse we've just watched Bake Off like some form of torture.

Xmas Angry

YANBU! I am usually anti shopping on Boxing day but get to the nearest shop quick and stock up on reduced Christmas treats!

Places are open today, don't sit and starve man. Ask if there's going to be food today or will you and your bloke just go out to eat while standing up.

Why don't you just ask DH about breakfast?

I have relatives like this so I always pack some secret snacks. Just shock them all by announcing you are starving and ready for breakfast!

You don't have to participate in their weirdness.

"What's for breakfast, I'n starving" is the phrase you're searching for.

Can't you help yourself to toast or something?

Another time, take a stash of cereal bars or suchlike with you.

Sounds like torture. You're meant to feel stuffed at Christmas...it's tradition. Supermarkets are usually open though... I'd head out and get something.

Oh my good god what is wrong with them all?! Is your DH not hungry? Can you get him onside? Otherwise stage a breakout and run to the nearest supermarket!

Just wanted to send a quick message of solidarity from my in-laws' house, where not being hungry, not liking sweet things and declaring yourself stuffed after ordinary sized meals is a competitive sport. They're absolutely lovely, kind people (and I know that my mother in law has lots of food issues and she can't help that) but I wouldn't mind a wee bit of Christmas indulgence...

"Right I'm starving, shall I go and make a start on breakfast?"

YANBU!!!! I hate it when people say shit like "oh I had such a big lunch I couldn't possibly manage dinner". Well I fucking can so make some available for me you stingy shit hosts!

Did they really offer you nothing else yesterday? Shocking

DH normally intervenes to ensure I don't starve - unfortunately he's come down with some bug and is no use to me.

Last year we went out 'for a walk' on Boxing Day and went to the corner shop to scavenge something edible. Every year I mean to pack a bag of emergency rations, why don't I learn?

That sounds rather mean! We had a break after dinner and then had pudding, then had cheese and crackers. But you're being far too British about this, just ask what's happening with breakfast now!

DM is like this. When we drove 6 hours to go to my grans funeral, we'd only had a motorway cafe breakfast all day, so at the wake at 4pm DH and I thought we'd get a decent feed. We forgot DM was in charge of catering, so half a sandwich and a very small piece of cake each. When it was over and we went back to DM's she announced she was so stuffed for the food at the wake (wtf?!?) she wasn't doing anything for tea. We were starving, in the arse end of nowhere, nothing in her fridge to make anything resembling a meal with so we had to drive another 45 mins to find somewhere to have a meal, since the local pub was shut already.

But having food issues doesn't mean everyone else has to suffer. I'm full after a pathetic amount of food so feed everyone else up in pure envy I think.

Are you eating toast at least now OP?

Margaret that sounds very similar!

No food since lunch yesterday? I really think it's acceptable to either help yourself or go for a take away! Why isn't your partner just sorting you out some food if you aren't comfortable doing it yourself??

Smile and say, "oooh, I'm starving, I'm just going to make some toast - anyone else want some?" And get up and make some.

If they make vague noises about it being breakfast in a minute, just stick to your guns. "Mmmm, lovely. I'll just have some toast while I wait." Or even, "oh, good! What can I do to get things ready?" (And have a piece of toast while you set the table, or whatever.)

Bizarre. How rude not to offer guests food in the morning. Weird. Ask if you can put a bit of toast on. Net time stash emergency food.

Why do you keep going back year after year OP? It sounds miserable

Yep, staying at MILs. Where not only is she 'utterly stuffed' after a lettuce leaf but is horrified that I have the teremity to be fat Shock
I was given a selection box for Christmas by a sympathetic relative. I have been stuffing my face in front of her. The huffing and tutting is hilarious.
She can kiss my fat arse.

I've got family like this and last time I brought loads of snacks in my suitcase and felt a lot happier with my stay being able to go and have a munch in my room when I felt like it!

That sounds mean. But you really should pack stuff. I have a friend who just doesn't eat much, so I take stuff with me.

To be fair bubbins, I don't think mine are quite as bad. There were croissants for breakfast this morning, though of course they came with a running commentary about how fatty they were and how some people would eat things like this all the time, but of course they don't really like unhealthy things and they don't understand why people choose such things but then people do keep getting fatter and fatter and... LET ME EAT MY (mini) CROISSANT!
