People are coming at two, youngest has been sick three times between 9-10.30z I'm thinking I just message people in the morning and let them make their own mind up as long as not sick again? ive bought all the food etc and shame to waste it. It's ok to give people the information and then let them decide isn't it? Or should I just cancel

I would cancel. They will not thank you for ruining their festive period with sickness.

Contact them in the morning and tell them you are happy for them still to come but will understand if they don't want to risk becoming ill.

No way. I'd think a great deal less of you if you didn't basically quarantine your home for at least 2 days after the last incidence of D or V.

If you're up front and tell them about the possibility of them catching it I think it's fine to have them round.

If your kids are puking in the morning, definitely call it off.

Id cancel in case some optimistic type comes along anyway and passes it to elderly, immuno compromised people etc. I think the NHS have actually asked ill people to be sensible and quarantine themselves.

I would cancel. It's Christmas! Last thing you want is to pass on a sickness bug.

Cancel, or they will all be seeing all that lovely food again

Plus stomach flu bugs can exist in the home for weeks following. I'd be giving you a wide berth, sorry.

How on earth are you considering still going ahead? 48 hours are needed! You'll infect everyone!

I think cancel but it's such a crying shame as we haven't seen people for ages and if I'm not sure it's that rhen it such a waste. If sick again I'm deffo going to cancel so I totally agree if it seems like a bug then no way should people come but what if it's a one (or three off) and kid is fine tomorrow? Do people still think cancel every time? My OH and I totally disagree about how to deal so really useful for people's opinions

Cancel. I had norovirus a few years back, thought I was ok to go to a friend's dinner party and ended up giving it to everyone else. For Christmas day. I felt awful :( Can you freeze some of the food you bought and rearrange the gathering in the new year?

SinisterBumFacedCat · 23/12/2016 22:59

Yes it's a bug, please cancel

Cancel! I'd be furious if I turned up Xmas Eve to find a recently pukey child! One episode of sickness might be nothing but 3 is likely to be a bug.

Just had exactly this dilemma - DD2 vommed in the wee small hours and has been hot and emotional since. I initially let people make their own minds up but have now rearranged for Bank Holiday Tuesday.

I don't want the responsibility of catering for people when it is puke central, or of ruining someone's Christmas. It's also my best friend's birthday in a few days and I want everyone to be well enough to attend that!

MrsJamin · 23/12/2016 23:00

You'll give it to everyone then ruin all their other plans - they will not thank you. See them another time. I'd always take a healthy family over seeing old friends!

Pukepukepuke · 23/12/2016 23:06

How is it definitely a bug? Is sickness always a bug? Went to a party earlier and food wasn't great so was thinking it could maybe be that but the more I think the more it probably is

Cancel. Freeze what you can and have some kind of anti Xmas dinner in a couple of days time Grin

People are far to hung up on arbitrary dates. As if the world is gonna fall apart if it doesn't happen that day

Live dangerously. Have the dinners on some other day.

One where everyone can enjoy it.

FYI I'm fine with ordering a pizza Xmas eve and seeing people when they are better Smile

I think it's perfectly reasonable to tell people and leave the decision up to them. There may well be other families who've already had it or are happy to take the risk. If they're not happy they'll just say no.

Cancel. Don't put the burden on your guests to have to be the one to say 'we don't want to come'.

A friend showed up with her ds at ours one day, her ds had been sick the night before 'but he's fine now so probably something he ate'. The friend who was staying with us at the time vomited his way back to Australia on the plane, dd was sick a few days later, then me, then ds and by the end of the week dh was ill too. Don't risk doing something similar to your friends!
