I get married next year. I have to go on a diet. I'm horrible. Obviously I'm getting pretty stuck in now and will start afresh in January.

I have 10 months would like to lose 2 stone. Is this doable? I'm currently 12 and a half stone. Yes I'm disgusting and horrible and I feel awful about myself. Would like to drop a dress size more importantly than lose weight.

Please tell me best plans that you have followed and have worked.
Thank you !

I don't think the language you are using about yourself is helpful. You are not disgusting or horrible. You may have done weight to lose, but the demonisation isn't a good plan.

Perfectly doable. I lost over 2 stone once inside five months.

Thank you but I do feel those things about myself. I have huge stress eating issues. I hate it.

Of course you can do this, two pounds a week is what to aim for, and as such that's eight pounds a month, you only want to lose 28 pounds, so you can do it in three and a half months and then maintain, pick your dress etc and be sized for it. I think the language you're using isn't helpful either

I've put on two and a half stone and feel very uncomfortable in size and shape. Yes it's doable.

You can do this.
You aren't disgusting.
You need to replace the stress eating with something else. What would work for you instead?

I would say sex but I'm quite tired. I tried downloading the couch to five k app from the NHS but can no longer find it. Have downloaded another one but it's an American person shouting at me that I'm awesome.

More than doable.

You need a plan to tackle the stress eating side of things. What can you do to help yourself relax when stressed that doesn't involve food?

I have lost 7 stone via slimming world and been at target for nearly a year. Like you I was a Stress eater (well still am I guess!) but discovered exercise and in particular running helps me destress so without that I couldn't have done it.

I am significantly bigger than you and I don't think I'm disgusting or horrible. Not perfect and I absolutely have to address my issues but it's quite sad to think that about yourself. You'll put yourself in better stead of succeeding if you don't hate yourself so much

I lost 16lbs since 1 Nov giving up alcohol and using MFP. My starting weight was 12:13 and I am 5ft5. I am now "on a break" and intend to lose another stone between 1 Jan and Feb half term.

Be honest with yourself, what is triggering the gain? Comfort eating, portion size, "treats", empty calories in drinks, food choices...

I find it best to start with a week using My Fitness Pal to identify what I'm doing. My basic diet is fine, but it doesn't take much to eat more than I burn and let portion size or getting too relaxed about treats. I can lose the weight without a structured diet, and just be mindful at getting back to basics. The approach that will work for you will depend on your weakness. I would say that feeling satisfied helps you to stick with it.

It is a realistic goal.

I agree with PP don't use those words about yourself 12 and a half stone is nothing like terrible and 2 is perfectly reasonable. I lost 3 and a half in 7 months by running every single evening and eating my main meal at lunchtime instead of later.
You'll be grand.
Also maybe think about your relationship with food, if you deprive yourself you'll want it more!!

If you had told me this time last year that I'd be 3.5 stone lighter and able to run a 10k, I would have laughed at you.

What helped - joining a chat thread (it was a 'lose a stone' one) and even though I had to be dragged kicking and screaming towards it, using MFP.

You could be me five years ago! I was the same weight and lost a similar amount of weight in the same timescale you have! Slimming world worked for me, thought I was really strict with myself (attempts to go back on the plan since haven't been as successful).
You can totally do this, and a wedding date (and dress) is a brilliant motivator! I was so pleased with how I looked in my photos (and honeymoon pictures) even though my dress ended up being on the big side!!

Yes sounds v do-able to me. Maybe join a slimming group for moral support and encouragement if it appeals to you. 1st Jan seems like a logical time to start. Good luck. 🍀💐

Agree use my fitness pal. Decide how many calories you want a day and then add everything thing in (calories in sauces always surprise me!). When I'm dieting I find mfp addictive!

Do you have a budget for this?

If so I highly recommend a personal trainer once a week - I was really struggling till I got one. You get pushed harder than you ever would otherwise plus it makes you accountable to someone.

If not, if you're not into running or YouTube HIIT workouts are a good idea.

With 10 months to go little changes over that period will make a big difference so set yourself realistic targets you can stick to.

And remember it takes a few weeks for your body to catch up with these changes and to start noticing a difference - once you get to this point the motivation will take over but make sure you don't give up after one week and you haven't seen much change! It will come!

Brighton

You are NOT disgusting (or your fiancé wouldn't want to marry you) - I bet you are VOLUPTUOUS!

But if you want to lose weight for health reasons as well as to feel happy with yourself, then I recommend the 5:2 diet. I lost 2 stones on it and most of it stayed off (the only reason I've started to put on again is that I've been under massive stress with DS's health and have eaten ll dat every day for five months).
