WWYD? Would you be offended?

Our neighbours across the street have 3 young kids and I think they are really struggling financially. The last couple of months there has been a soup van from Salvation Army outside their house.
I don't know them very well as they seem to keep to themselves but with Christmas coming I was thinking of wrapping up some presents and putting them by their door.
I bought 6 presents (2 each), wrapped them and put a sticky note describing what was inside so that the parents can decide who gets what.
It is now midnight (Australia) and I am thinking of sneaking across. My Dh thinks that it's not a good idea and they could be really offended.
WWYD?
I am not leaving my name, it is anonymous. Would you be offended?

I think it's a wonderful idea, I think I'd be very grateful

I'd be really grateful for the kindness of strangers, but it's the kind of thing I'd do too.

gabsdot Fri 23-Dec-16 13:18:49

It's a lovely thing to do and I'm sure they will be very grateful.

A lovely idea.

LadyFuchsiaGroan Fri 23-Dec-16 13:20:20

I think it is a lovely idea - if they are receiving help from Salvation Army they may just assume its from them?

JennyOnAPlate Fri 23-Dec-16 13:20:51

I think it's a lovely idea op.

ElsaAintAsColdAsMe Fri 23-Dec-16 13:21:01

flowers what a lovely person you are op. I'm sure they will be so grateful.

Isadora2007 Fri 23-Dec-16 13:21:29

Lovely idea. Whilst I may be embarrassed to receive these I would overlook that in order to give my children some gifts. flowers

ImYourMama Fri 23-Dec-16 13:21:40

Do it!

ditzychick34 Fri 23-Dec-16 13:21:43

What a wonderful thing to do, you are a star 🌟

Wellitwouldbenice Fri 23-Dec-16 13:22:00

Lovely idea whatever their situation smile

Liiinoo Fri 23-Dec-16 13:22:25

I would say it's from 'your neighbours at number 2' or whatever. I would be wary of giving my children a parcel from an unknown person. You sound lovely btw. What a kind thing to do.

UnbornMortificado Fri 23-Dec-16 13:22:42

What a lovely idea flowers

Merriment Fri 23-Dec-16 13:22:58

Do it! I would never be offended if someone got gifts for my dcs.

HerBluebiro Fri 23-Dec-16 13:24:34

Do it. Brief cover note saying 'please do with these as you see fit' (just in case the soup van is there because they are big in the salvation army volunteer scene not struggling themselves) and yeah do it discretely.

But do it.

Moreisnnogedag Fri 23-Dec-16 13:25:55

Do it. Its a lovely thought and a good idea to attach post it notes.

FireSquirrel Fri 23-Dec-16 13:26:05

You sound lovely. When I was struggling I would have been so touched and grateful to receive something like this, not offended at all. Go for it smile

PonyPals Fri 23-Dec-16 13:33:22

Ohhh thanks everyone for your kind words! You made me teary.
My sister and I just walked the presents over and put them on the side of the door by the car... and quickly ran back.
We are now sitting outside having a wine (32 degrees today and hot!) and have dubbed ourselves the Christmas Ninjas. Might have to do this every Year.
Merry Christmas to you all smile

VladmirsPoutine Fri 23-Dec-16 13:34:14

I'd feel sad. It's a great idea in theory but it'd make me feel even worse to realise that everyone else could see my struggle.

mygorgeousmilo Fri 23-Dec-16 13:41:06

Fantastic! fsmile

Zarachristmas Fri 23-Dec-16 13:42:10

I think it's a lovely idea and I hope it all works out.

When I was growing up we never had much money. I can remember one year an aunt left loads of bags of shopping filled with lovely things on the doorstep (she knew my dad would be too stubborn to accept face to face).

Pretty much made our Christmas.

Bluntness100 Fri 23-Dec-16 13:44:12

This is such a sweet thing to do, and even if they didn't need the help, it's still lovely to give children's gifts. If you also did it anonymously then that's even nicer. That's definitely a good deed. 💐

Aeroflotgirl Fri 23-Dec-16 13:45:39

That is wonderful, and the true meaning of Christmas, well done Pony. You don't realise, the presents that you bought them, might be their only presents. Well done flowersflowers

gamerchick Fri 23-Dec-16 13:49:38

Will they not get nicked? They wouldn't last an hour outside round here.

Lovely thought OP.
