For children it's some small gifts like new pjs , sachet of hot chocolate and a DVD (something like this) all to use on xmas eve night. I love the idea

The only thing it is is a marketing thing. Uaually mentioned by people trying to sell you a fancy personalised box. Ignore it!

it has been around for a couple of years. it will either take off and 99% of the population will be doing it next year. or not.

Can I introduce you to Google.

If everyone on MN googled instead of starting a thread then we'd be left with lots of parking threads and poo trolls and not much else

I think that the name CHAT forum gives it away

It's little parcel of things for children to do on Christmas Eve to help calm them down a bit and make the bedtime routine feel a bit special. Typically pyjamas, bubble bath or a bath bomb, hot chocolate, a DVD and/or a storybook.

I've only ever come across them on here. Same with those creepy elves.

Its a fancy way of packaging Christmas jammies. Which you have to have. Everyone knows Santa doesnt come if you don't have Christmas jammies.

And sweets and a magazine to keep dd quiet while ii eat mince pies.

We have one this year actually.

Slightly different to the usual ones

It contains;-
a letter from Santa with a nice list certificate
A milk bottle for milk
A little mat for Santas treat
An engraved shot glass
Candy cane
Sweets
Chocolate coin
Magic snow
Stickers
Reindeer food

And then another little note to leave in the morning from Santa to say thank you for the drink and treat

Just a bit of fun

It is aibu. Not chat.

Yabu to not even search for what it is

Sure. Then ask 'aibu to think they are pointless bits of commercial tat' (I disagree). But it's not like there isn't 8 million other threads on it on aibu this year alone

We don't have a box, but we do have a Christmas Eve present which is PJs each (only time we buy PJs), a DVD (this year it is Ice Age 11) and some form of snack. We open it after dinner, put our PJs on and then watch the film together with the snack.
The kids really look forward to it!

It's usually stuff you'd already do/buy just put together in a small box, basket or bag. So jammies, a Christmas DVD, a bedtime book, maybe a fancy bath bomb , that sort of thing.

No need to spend ££, just a way to make a little extra fun/magic.

Though it's an evil, materialistic way of spoiling your demon spawn according to some.

It's another add in for Christmas to differentiate the haves from the have nots to make sure children feel less valued for not having a personalized box of goodies -

Or it's parents thinking Christmas Day isn't good enough - so want to spend more

Or it could be like the pre prom party - so maybe we need 'after Christmas box' just to push parents to further into insanity

Or it could be a 'oh go one its chrisssssssstmaassssss - it's for tha kids init'?

Who knows? Or even cares? Unless you are 14 and on snapchat

We started doing it 2 years ago. Used a cheapy Christmas patterned decoration storage box we had and now keep our copy of 'teas the night before Christmas' in there, we add the pyjamas they would be getting box or no box, some nice drinking chocolate as they only have that on Christmas Eve and usually a gingerbread house and activity books for the day, a new dvd for us all to watch together and sometimes a new bedtime story book. They're all things they'd have anyway and keeps storing stuff as I buy it easier- it doesn't just end up filtering into use before Christmas Eve.

People claim it calls their knowledge ds down in Christmas eve. Because nothing calms kids down like a load of extra presents the day before they get other presents. 😂
People also always mention ho chocolate like it us a magical elixir inky available on Xmas eve and not the other,364 days if the year.
Can you tell I think they are shite

I hate the creepy elf but fell hook line and sinker for the Christmas Eve Box got mine from a lovely local (NI) site although they do the whole of the uk and ROI don't want to name them in case you think I'm advertising although I don't work for them! Can't wait to read the book and do the crafts, there's reindeer food and cookies for santa and a Christmas candle, hot chocolate, there was meant to be fudge but if my girls ask ours didn't have any Xmas Blush
