AIBU?

To let my child eat two eggs in one sitting?

My dd (3 next month) loves eggs. She recently started asking for 2 boiled eggs instead of 1 for lunch.
My dm was a bit Shock at me giving her 2 eggs in one go. The next time I saw my nan she said to me 'I think you should phone the health visitor or doctor and check it's ok to have 2 eggs'. I have Googled but can't find anything.
The eggs are only small and dd is not 'bunged up' which seems to be their concern. She also only has boiled eggs once or twice a week, not everyday!
Is 2 small eggs really a problem?

I would have thought it was fine. Plenty of nutrition in an egg. My DC love our home grown eggs. If I do scrambled eggs, it works out as two each.

No. Fine for a three year old. I believe that eggs used to be called 'bad for you' because they are high fat, but it's all good fats that children need to grow and be healthy and they're full of nutrition. I think they're depending on out of date information.

Of course it's fine. Unless they are chocolate eggs. Eggs are healthy and nutritious and the research that stigmatised them as bad for cholesterol has been superceded.

My 1 yo and 3 yo DSs can eat a whole saucepan full of scrambled eggs made with 6 eggs between them and pretty much a whole quiche between the two of them. Nothing wrong with eggs.

Eggs are brilliant, my 19 month old eats one to herself then begs off mine. They're very good for you, let her eat them.

Didnt they used to advise you should only have 2 eggs a week?
Now it's thought of as fine, nutritionally they are fantastic especially with a glass of orange juice as our bodies struggle to get the iron out of them so the vit c is a huge boost.

Eh? 2 is normal surely? 1 egg is only 70cals- that's not enough for lunch for a 3 year old! 2 plus toast/ veg sticks is what I'd give.

I used to give mine two all the time, can't see the issue here at all.🙄

My 2 year old has been eating two for a while now. Plenty of protein in an egg.

That advice is outdated.

My 2yr old will sometimes manage 3 scrambled eggs in one sitting.

Phew. Thanks all. I did laugh at their egg comments but them started worrying I missed a memo or something about eggs Grin
I shall report back to them both that dd is perfectly fine having 2eggs!

My extremely fussy 22 month old ate 2 scrambled eggs last Sunday - I was over the moon!

It's fine. My mum used to say I would end up egg bound, whatever that means, if I ate too many. I think it's an old wives tale.

I have a 2 egg limit for everyone, but my sister thinks I am a bit mean, and will happily let her kids have the equivalent of 3. (2 at breakfast, and maybe the 3rd later in the day as part of a potato salad etc)

Eggs are a great form of protein, 2 eggs for a 3 year old seems fine to be.

So many food concerns are based on misinformation or outdated research (yes mother I'm talking to you!!)

The bunged up thing is a myth. "Egg bound" is a condition of poultry, not people!

Xmas Grin - yes Weeds, a sort of poultry constipation, with eggs not poo

Unless you are swallowing the eggs whole in their shells, this ought not be a problem...

Maybe 2 Easter eggs....chicken eggs? It's fine! I think there's a thing called egg bound that older people bang on about....or I may have dreamt that Hmm

Why not eggs everyday?!

I love eggs and eat them almost every day. I can report that i have no issues whatsoever, especially not in the ‘bunged up’ department.

Absolutely fine. If eggs were rarer and more expensive they'd be branded a superfood and they'd be the trendy new goji berry, quinoa or whatever.

Weeds Thanks for that, I'm always confused on threads about egg consumption about people being 'bunged up'.

I eat at least a dozen eggs a week, usually more and have never noticed any ill effects. I just ignore people who give food advice based on outdated ideas as they have no idea what they are on about. Eggs are a much better food than what is usually on offer as an alternative such as cereal or toast.

I remember seeing a campaign saying "an egg a day is okay!" (In Ireland I think)

I don't have eggs every day, but when I do I usually have 2.

So I think it's fine to have 2 eggs as long as it's not every day. Eggs are very healthy!
