I have never been one to bow to the terrorists and change my plans, was in London the day after 7/7 but we have booked to go to winter wonderland with the kids this Friday and since the horrible events in Berlin I am feeling very nervous about it and wonder if I am being irresponsible to be taking the kids to London at such a high threat time. AIBU?

YANBU to be nervous, it's understandable. Security at Winter Wonderland is pretty good, though, and I imagine they've stepped it up a bit more since Berlin. I live in London and won't stop taking my DD to events/where there are crowds but I will admit to feeling a bit nervous, too...

Have you been to winter wonderland? I went 2 Years wasnt that great. I wouldnt not go to an event thst i wanted to attend because of berlin or any terrorism. i live in the london area and rarely think about it. But Winter wonderland???? what do others think?

formerbabe Wed 21-Dec-16 19:08:06 you not ever travel in a car? Because statistically that's far more dangerous.

JustHappy3 Wed 21-Dec-16 19:08:24

Then they win. It's a weigh up between a risk now and the risk of the future for your children, grandchildren etc. But it's not an easy call to make.

YWNB irresponsible to take your kids into London, though!

YABU to cancel because of the terrorism issue

YA also BU going into London with kids 2 days before Christmas - it will be mad busy lol

JungleWait Wed 21-Dec-16 19:09:14

YABU. But I wouldn't go into London for the winter wonderland 2 days before Christmas! It really isn't all that!

ThroughThickAndThin01 Wed 21-Dec-16 19:09:54

YANBU. I would probably go if pre planned, but it would worry me.

TheCuriousOwl Wed 21-Dec-16 19:13:46

YABU for going to London 2 days before Christmas because it's heaving with people and everyone who has to be there and has no choice is grumpy as fuck grin

YABU for not going because Terrorism.

Signed, A Londoner

I wouldn't go as London is very very busy.
I know someone in govt and it isn't just London that is at major threat level. It is some local cities which really surprised me

BadKnee Wed 21-Dec-16 19:16:08

I'm here. I live here. Agree with others.

Crunchymum Wed 21-Dec-16 19:16:21

My DP wants to take my DS(4) to Covent Garden tomorrow [we lI've a few tube stops away so are based pretty centrally] and I do feel a bit of trepidation if I'm honest.

QueenMortificado Wed 21-Dec-16 19:16:46

Sorry but this attitude utterly fucks me off. What do you think the millions of people who live in London do?

Crunchymum Wed 21-Dec-16 19:17:08

ll've = live (weird typo!!)

EssentialHummus Wed 21-Dec-16 19:18:54

What curiousowl said.

Seriously, go to a busy football ground at half-time and tear up £20 notes. You'll replicate xmas in London perfectly.

Trills Wed 21-Dec-16 19:19:39

You are being silly.

Understandably silly, but still silly.

dovesong Wed 21-Dec-16 19:20:41

YABU. You could die at any time at any point. And everything is safer just after an attack because they step up security. I've lived in London for 30 years and have managed not to die in a terrorist attack so far. I wouldn't go to winter wonderland two days before Christmas though... Hellishly busy.

TheProblemOfSusan Wed 21-Dec-16 19:23:28

You're being very unreasonable - 80% of London will be trying to leave on Friday because of Christmas so you'll be making our travel congestion worse.

But worrying about terrorism is understandable but a bit daft. We have spectacular security in London. There's police all over the place, many with machine guns.

I know it's worrying but it is fine here, I promise.

But please still don't come because it'll be a NIGHTMARE on the trains in Friday.

WheresTheEvidence Wed 21-Dec-16 19:24:11

I've just had to go through London on 2 trains a d 2 tubes at rush hour to get home for Christmas. It did cross my mind but I refuse to be scared of doing things because some terrorists tell me I should be. I wont give them the power.

Ilovenannyplum Wed 21-Dec-16 19:24:46

DP and I are going on Friday because we're mad clearly

I'm in 2 minds now not because I'm scared of a terror threat but because the bag check queues are taking up to an hour to get in. One hour hmm
I like winter wonderland but not enough to queue up for a sodding hour

LotsOfShoes Wed 21-Dec-16 19:26:49

Yanbu. I have the same thoughts. I'm also a Londoner but that doesn't mean I would go to such a busy and famous place now.

Birdsgottafly Wed 21-Dec-16 19:27:41

There were five arrests in the U.K. and the plans to hit Christmas Markets in the U.K. we're completely foiled.

I'd be wary outside of the UK, but we are doing really well at foiling Terrorist plans/movement/communications.
