To give DH gym membership for Christmas?

He's going to kill me, isn't he?

It's not just for him, me and both DC too. It's a fancy health club place with kids activities, meaning we can work out while they're in the club. It seemed like such a good idea when I was in there earlier.

If it makes any difference, I'm the higher earner and manage the money. We can afford it. I've also cut out all the kids other activities to make it worth out while.

Give it as a family gift then.

So... you got him a present for all of you to use?

I hope you got him something else, I'd be pissed off if someone got me a present that I have to share with other people.

It depends, does he want a gym membership? If so, it's a good present, if not it's shit. Do the kids want their other activities cut out? Don't they have friends at the activities they do?

Why didn't you just buy you a membership if you weren't sure?

As long as he'd actually want to go then it's fine

If you even hint it's because he needs to lose weight etc then don't

So a kids club membership (in part) , is his Christmas present. I would be hacked off. Plus you've cancelled the kids activities to afford it? Yep, YABU

You know, I was just thinking my dh would benefit from a dyson supersonic hairdryer...

I think that's a lovely gift. My dh would be excited about a gift that showed I wanted to spend time with him and the dc getting to enjoy it too is a bonus. I'd love a present like that! If you're worried maybe a gym bag with towel, shower gel and deodorant etc ready packed? Or some new work out gear?

I think it's a great present.

I think it's a great gift. But would get him something just for him as well.

I'd feel a bit like something you were going to get for everyone anyway was being dressed up as my present.

Is it something he would enjoy? If so I think it's a nice idea, especially if you get to use it together while the kids are looked after. Id worry that my DH would think I was hinting he was chubby and needed to lose a few pounds though

I got him something else too. The kids were fed up with their other activities (gym, swimming elsewhere) and wanted to join. He loves going to the gym. I think I need to Wrap it up as a present to all of us from Santa.

Yeah.... this is a gift he doesnt seem to have asked for and seems to be for all of you, not for him? I love the gym so I'd be happy-ish, but like prev posters would feel it wasnt really 'my' gift

Do you normally go to the gym together, or has he indicated that he'd like you to work out as a family? I'm not a gym-goer myself, but imagine some would rather go alone?

Oh Christ, if DP got me that i'd think 'he thinks i'm fat and need to take the kids out more'. But then I do have quite low self esteem Confused

Maybe YOU are just not good at gifts OP.. Socks and pants are pretty crappy presents I think but I would be very happy with a breadmaker!

It sounds great. I'd be over the moon. We had a similar membership before divorce. I miss that more than my ex husband Wink
