AIBU to hunt down and destroy the house alarm that's going off with a hammer?

Lighthearted- sort of!

I live in a very naice new stepford wives style "village" and oh my god the alarms! I work term time only and one summer a house alarm went off every day from 7.30-6.30. Every damn day. I wanted to murder someone. I pounded the streets trying to find the house but the chirping little shit could never be found due to circular streets echoing it. I swear I was going insane.

This happens every couple of weeks. We are now in hour 36 of another house alarm going off. I am honest to god feeling murderous! Having visions of stalking the streets at 4am in my dressing gown, finding the house, scaling it like Spider-Man and dismantling the little box piece by bloody piece.

And yes I've called the council and lodged a complaint but they can't find the house either. I really feel for my neighbours with kids! Don't know how they manage.

So anyway. Rant over. Anyone else had to deal with constant irritating noises/lights/neighbours and fancy a rant to distract me?

We have alarms in pleb streets too, you know grin

I've never experienced 36 hours though. Most switch off after maybe a couple of hours?

MotherOfBeagles Mon 19-Dec-16 21:46:27

Haha it's not that it's not a pleb street it's more the circular, winding, too many houses packed into an ex mad cow topping site new build echoing shitty hell hole lol. Plus the fact that the precious step ford wife types go on about securing our children at the forum meetings (that we get minutes posted through the door because we don't attend) then leave the fuckers going off for days at a time!

Also the last bit of local "crime" we had was someone painting a smiley face on their own front door!!! Why the hell are they all so alarm obsessed?

Sorry I'm going delirious. confused

Kill it with fire.

MotherOfBeagles Mon 19-Dec-16 21:48:18

Oh an missed the switch off bit. No. These don't. How would that protect the family jewels? No these just change rhythm every few hours. Like Christmas lights but in an alarm!

OhtoblazeswithElvira Mon 19-Dec-16 21:51:36

This would drive me crazy.

I would knock on every door in my dressing gown and ask if it's their alarm going off. If it's not, do they know whose it is? Someone has to do it! I would love to see those minutes though

You do sound delirious grin

StillMaidOfStars Mon 19-Dec-16 21:53:59

I'd actually phone the police. Isn't that what you're supposed to do?

I mean, if it isn't, what's the point of the alarm?

MotherOfBeagles Mon 19-Dec-16 21:55:08

Oh they are hilarious elvira. Whenever they turn up they are definitely enjoyed with a glass of wine! And yes definitely getting delirious now. Have ear plugs in and no bloody use. All the windows and doors firmly shut. My dh has this amazing ability to ignore it, but it cuts right into me. If it's still going tomorrow I'm going to my mums and sleeping in their caravan lol.

MotherOfBeagles Mon 19-Dec-16 21:57:31

We have done maid they come and try and find the house just the same as the council but it's literally impossible. No one believes me until they come over and try and help. It's like the most impossible where's wally! Probably very outing here but it's the biggest development in the northwest and the number of houses and way noises echo are insane.

OhtoblazeswithElvira Mon 19-Dec-16 21:59:18

Definitely not a car alarm?

bigbluebus Mon 19-Dec-16 22:03:40

I thought they were supposed to stop ringing after 20 mins by law. The only time ours or a neighbours has rung for longer is when the power has gone off and the back-up battery has run out. In our defence we had a planned power outage for 8 hours and the battery only lasted 6 unlike neighbours whose alarm rang every time the power went off because he never had it serviced so the back-up battery had no power in it at all

Nope been out with the dogs three times tonight (poor sods totally confused and refusing to come out of their beds now) to try and find it. It's definitely a house. It used to be so much worse as my step dad is a police officer and he used to mock me for not being able to find them and get them turned off. The last few times I've made him come and look with me - even he can't find them! So at least now I feel a bit vindicated lol.

Oh well. Going to lose myself in the world of Tolkien so at least if I can't sleep there's something more interesting then cheep cheep cheep cheep siren siren siren whistle whistle whistle!

MotherOfBeagles Mon 19-Dec-16 22:05:27

I've never heard that blues might have to go to the next town forum and kick off a bit!

MerylPeril Mon 19-Dec-16 22:07:54

Me neighbours goes off daily (not for long granted) - but what's the friggin point?

I totally ignore the bastard - someone could be ransacking their house
Sometimes I would be glad if someone did as then they would realise - no one takes any bloody notice of it and not switch it on again.

TheDogPeedOnMyBed Mon 19-Dec-16 22:07:59

YANBU. Not quite the same thing but I had a fire alarm that started to go off randomly in the middle of the night (there was NO fire) - I ripped it off the ceiling and murdered it with a hammer. It gave me great pleasure.

MotherOfBeagles Mon 19-Dec-16 22:17:16

Haha that made me laugh! It is disproportionately pleasurable killing things with hammers when they make too much noise. I bet my dh would be terrified to read that sentence lol!

Oh god it's just kicked up a notch into full siren mode. Think this is its swan song? Please god let it be.

There's ten houses on my little cul-de-sac and we're the only ones without kids. The eldest on the street is 9 and youngest is only a few weeks. I really feel for them, it's not on at all.

Gooseygoosey12345 Mon 19-Dec-16 22:17:50

Definitely go to the next meet. Tell them you'll be reporting it to the police from now on as anti social noise. That should be enough to make people check it's not theirs. Obviously don't mention that you don't know where it's coming from! I can't stand things like that either, would do my head in!

thetoothfairywhoforgot Mon 19-Dec-16 22:25:51

It sounds awful. Can you speak to some neighbors and see if it is affecting them too?

You could do a flier drop, get an article in the local paper? Try a local facebook group?

We have several alarms round here that go off almost daily that piss me off no end. We've in a wee valley and they echo so we can't figure it out either. Bloody pointless if you ask me.
