So most Christmases DH and I can't afford to get each other much and we concentrate on the children in the family. He always seems to manage to get me some lovely surprises though and I always feel that what I get him is a bit boring and predictable. This year we have a bit more money and I had the idea to get him a game for his xbox which he really wants but kept saying he wouldn't be able to justify getting it for himself. I spoke to his friend to find out which xbox he has etc (I'm clueless!) and to make sure I'm getting the right thing. His friend said he'd order it so he didn't have any clue and I could give him the money. All good. About 30 minutes later the friend texted DH saying have you got this game yet. Dh said no but he was thinking of looking to see if it had come down in price yet. The friend said "don't do that. Really don't. But don't tell the missus". So DH asked me if I knew anything and I said no but I'm a seriously rubbish liar. Then a few more texts were telling him don't get it but don't tell the missus I told you! I was raging - to me this is really obvious that I've got it for him but DH says his friend is only stopping him from buying it. But his friend put the idea of that game in his head tonight, there are only a few days left till christmas, couldn't he just not have mentioned it?! And warning would have been nice if DH was giving him the impression he was about to buy it! I was messaging the friend earlier about how to keep it a secret and saying I hope he doesn't end up buying it! And now I'm the one being unfair when his friend was only trying to stop him buying it....but I'm so angry with the friend!

Yes, I think your DH will have guessed. But it sounds like friend was just trying to do the right thing, albeit cack handedly.

Your DH did say to friend that he was thinking of looking to see if the price had come down, so it's not as if friend put the idea in his head.

Doh!

There's nothing you can do about it now though so maybe pretend it's still a surprise?

Maybe wrap something silly in a game shaped parcel, give to do, wait for puzzled look before handing over the game with a wink?
