AIBU?

AIBU to feel my Christmas tree is making my house look tacky?

Ok so usually I don't mind putting up the Christmas tree, normally do it on Christmas Eve as it really stresses me out and it's down on New Year's Day but this year due to DD not feeling great we've put it up a whole week early, I just feel like it's taken over my newly decorated room! To add to it I've just found out from someone else that family are coming round to ours (this particular person hasn't told me, I think it's meant to be a surprise) on Boxing Day. I just feel like with the tree my room looks really tacky and cluttered, I do have slight OCD alongside my anxiety but I just hate having a bloody huge tree in the room, I couldn't have a smaller one as DH and DC wanted a large one (I was outvoted) and to add insult to injury it's a snow tipped tree so there's white s*t everywhere!! I think I just needed a rant and maybe a "get in the Christmas spirit you grumpy b**h" lol Xmas Sad

Look on the bright side, when you take the tree down your room will look huge again (and tidy). YANU though. We put our tree up early December. I usually manage to take it down and remove all traces of Christmas by the 28th! That makes me so happy.

Unless your tree is pink I think you should be alright;)

Seriously. Christmas trees are great. And they have this lovely tree smell!

Or you could just put real candles on it?

Idk. I'm sure it looks lovely :)!

I get you. No tree for me here, I always feel decorations make the house cluttered and I can't relax in it. I love Christmas, but no decorations.

And when you're done with the tree I'd recommend chucking it out of the window.

No needles in the rest of the house etc...

Merry Christmas 🎄🎄

Can you buy some decorations that compliment the room?

My tree is black with red and silver decorations. I bought it all together when my living room was warm grey with black and red thrown in. It really suited the room and looked lovely.

It doesn't suit so much now that I have redecorated and it irritates me even though it's still a lovely tree.

Christmas trees are meant to be tacky, so unless you have one that's luminous pink, or you have comedy pornographic ornaments you're fine!

We obviously need a photo do decide Xmas Grin

Yes, it probably does look tacky. Grin That's why we have ours on the upstairs landing (really because of the dog, but now that we do it, I don't think I'll ever move it back to the living room) which keeps everyone happy. DD gets a tree, I get to keep the decorations to a minimum downstairs.

It's a lovely feeling when the decs come down and the house can breathe again. It's my favourite part! Xmas Grin

Nothing wrong with tacky!
My boys decorated ours so a delight - er hem....

Report
JellyWitch · 18/12/2016 19:48

Yes it probably does. That's why ours isn't going up until Christmas Eve and will be accompanied by holly, Ivy and candles and absolutely no tinsel.

The whole point of Christmas trees is that they're tacky. I reckon if you're going to observe a bizarre pagan tradition of bringing a tree into your house and decorating it, you might as well go all out and decorate the hell out of it. And don't forget if your house looks cluttered and tacky so does everyone else's, including the people doing the surprise Boxing Day visit (and who the hell does surprise Boxing Day visits? I'd hate that).

Ha!

My tree has a Totoro plushie at the top instead of a fairy. And some batshit crazy decorations my mum made - gnomes and chickens, anyone?? I also have pink fluffy baubles. And multi coloured flashing lights.

Now that's tacky.

I know that you mean the room that your tree is in but I couldn't help but grin at 'tree room', and I now have visions of you having a specific room just for your tree.

Hm...

You could have a 'theme' if that would be better for your peace of mind?

You could be very ecological and rent a potted Christmas tree.

Or out biscuits and bows etc on one.

Or only use vintage baubles... something from grandmother or Idk.

Or have a color scheme...

Our Christmas decorations tend to be a bit chaotic, but I don't think they have to be.

I have tried to link it with the deco in the room, much to the annoyance of my DD who wanted to put on the colourful baubles from last year. According to her I'm controlling, I'm wondering where she's been for the last 10 years! Hassled I know!!! Who does surprise visits on Boxing Day? There goes my "eat what you want, don't disturb me, I'm not moving day!!!" ellamoromou posting pic just for you, bear in mind that it's not the tree that looks tacky but makes my room look tacky, if you know what I mean Xmas Confused. I wonder if I write a letter to Santa saying "we've run out of mince pies, as an apology please take the tree" do you think he'd oblige? Xmas Grin

Sorry pic is a bit dark, I'm sat here with the lights switched off and can't be a*d switching them on but hopefully you get the gist, baubles are silver with a few white and splashes of teal to match the teal in the room lol

Your tree and room are lovely. Not even remotely tacky!

Absolutely!
OP, your tree looks really gorgeous.

Trees in our families are always extremely chaotic. Seeing this actually makes me feel a bit desperate.
It looks lovely. You even colour coordinated it. I'm impressive!!

Yabu, that looks like the least tacky tree ever. You have totally failed in the tackiness departament. You should see mine. Tinsel of 6 different colours, mismatched baubles and multicoloured lights. It's fun, we love it and the kids had a great time decorating.

King I want to see your tree. It sounds like my kind of tree.

My tree looks like it needs putting out of its misery.
