I don't even have a partner that's cheated on me but after seeing so many friends going through it the Emma Thompson/ Alan Rickman story just seems so "real life"

I wonder what the the writer had been through to get it so right

I think part of being a really good writer is that you don't have to have gone through certain things, to get it right.

It's such a great film though.

I came home the other night to find my DH in tears again because he'd watched it for approximately the 7th or 8th time Xmas Grin

Emma Thompson is so real, she acts it brilliantly.

It's a Richard Curtis film - tweet him and ask.

It's actually my favourite film of all time. A perfect mix of emotions throughout each story.

Yanbu, I was dating someone who I was fairly certain was cheating on me when it came out at the cinema, he and I went to see the film together and he couldn't work out why it was making me cry, I left him shortly afterwards, think Emma Thompson spurred me on.

Dd and I watch it every year, it's one of the few things we both love. The Emma T - Alan R storyline is so upsetting and well-acted.

I started watching this this evening but read the other MN thread about it and unfortunately it has ruined it for me! I used to love it but I couldn't get into it at all. My recording of it got cut off half way through and I didn't even care!

Ugh, that makes me hate Alan Rickman, and it takes a lot to make me mad at Alan Rickman.

I always think about how Liam Neeson really did lose his wife and his children really did lose their mother. That ruined the film for me. I can't watch it.

I bloody love this film. When Emma Thompson goes into the bedroom to cry after opening the CD I want to throttle Alan Rickman, she plays the part so well.

My favourite couples are the writer/housekeeper and the couple who meet on the set of the porn film. Just brilliant!!

I think that the film is hit-and-miss (the prime minister /president thing was toe-curling) but Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman were superb. That scene where she straightens the bed clothes ...just wow.

I read that thread too, the one with this link?

(Warning, do not read above link if you love Love Actually and want to continue loving it!)

I loved it when I was younger, but as I've got older I've found fault with it.

Agree I think it's Emma Thompsons acting that really makes it for me, I love Alan Rickman but he's such a shit in this Angry

Rest of the film is a bit meh but that story has really moved me

I hate the Kiera nightly thing. Gives me the rage every time.

Read that link before, don't agree with it. Yes, there are one or two cringey moments, but the rest of the film makes up for them.

I really should, right...?

The linky woman doesn't like airports. She clearly hasn't been at Heathrow long haul arrivals on Christmas Eve. I was there last year meeting an offspring who had been Far Away for a year so was probably emotional anyway, but seeing the reunions was heart moving and so lovely.

Love Actually is, for the most part, a god awful film. Sexist views, ridiculous situations and characters and terrible acting.

However, it redeems itself almost entirely thanks to the amazing Emma Thompson and her tears in the bedroom as she listens to Joany Mitchell. She's amazing and it's worth sitting through the other scenes/tripe to watch this beautiful piece of acting

Can't watch it - does my head in!

It doesnt bear close scrutiny.
The liam neeson character is devastated at his wifes funeral. Is eyeing up another women within 6 weeks and has a blended family a month after that!
