Mystery Present - AIBU to ask, is this art??

I have a 6 month old and today he got his first Xmas present, sent through the post and addressed to him. Problem is we cant work out what it is, or who sent it. To clarify DH family are artists and we always have a painting or two from them for Xmas. There art can be of the rather (ahem) "abstract" style. To me though, this looks like someone printed a computer glitch. There is no message with it, no company name we can track back to. So, how do we enquire to family firstly if they sent it and secondly is it meant to look like this? AIBU to ask if it it art or computer error - what do you think?

It looks like a map...or rather a shot off Google Earth! Is it possibly where he was born or where you live?

And can we have a close up of one spot please?

baconandeggies Sat 17-Dec-16 12:46:35

Hmm... Babies like high contrast art apparently.

Marcipex Sat 17-Dec-16 12:48:57

Very dull art imo.

SausageSoda Sat 17-Dec-16 12:52:43

Is it cross stitched or painted? Struggling to tell

Do you think someone has sent off a photo to a company, and the photo has glitched itself and the company have literally printed the glitched photo onto the canvas?
The sender may have no idea

I like a lot of different types of art but that one literally hurts my eyes confused it looks like how a migraine feels

TKRedLemonade Sat 17-Dec-16 13:01:37

Def looks like a computer glitch...now that may be the intention

rabbit12345 Sat 17-Dec-16 13:02:26

Oh no. You are going to have to hang it up in case it is from a really close relative and they enquire about it. wink

Would be very funny if you did and then said relatives asked why you would hang a computer glitch grin

It's not one of those pictures where you see a 3D image of you stare at it for a bit --until you go cross eyed is it?

They were all the rage a few years ago.

PotOfYoghurt Sat 17-Dec-16 13:08:48

I'm going with computer/printer error. Surely?!

scottishdiem Sat 17-Dec-16 13:11:02

I would enquire. And if you can ask what it is as I think thats a fair question. If they sound indignant about that you can ask how it is supposed to be hung on the wall - that edge to edge black bar on top, bottom, left or right.

I suspect that it is an error in the file though being sent to a printer and thats why there is no note or return address.

Motherwithflaws Sat 17-Dec-16 13:11:10

It's the matrix. Your child must be the one!

Motherwithflaws Sat 17-Dec-16 13:12:33

Is your child called Neo?

mytinselsinatangle Sat 17-Dec-16 13:13:19

No idea what it is, I just can 't get over the fact someone would think it would be a good present for a 6 month old baby?

elQuintoConyo Sat 17-Dec-16 13:15:01

It is shit! Poor child shock

Witchend Sat 17-Dec-16 13:21:39

It looks like when the TV wasn't tuned in properly. grin

DeepanKrispanEven Sat 17-Dec-16 13:24:56

Is it meant to be some sort of arty mat for him to play on?

whyohwhy000 Sat 17-Dec-16 13:27:12

Maybe the company were cleaning the printer ink heads and this came out?

BeautifulRedBoots Sat 17-Dec-16 13:28:33

What does your DH think?

haveacupoftea Sat 17-Dec-16 13:28:50
