It's my birthday today - I'm officially 31. Had a lovely evening out celebrating with 3 friends, 1 of whom is meant to be a best friend.
Towards the end of the night she made a joke about not having got me a card - which is fine, not all that bothered about material things.
Anyway when I later asked her to stop filming me and another friend (repeatedly) she refused, commenting that I was just embarrassed. In the end I said well it's my birthday so... And she very flatly replied well I don't care about your birthday.
This friend has put me down and belittled me so much in the years I've known her that thus was the last straw and in the end I said I was going to go home. She questioned why I was upset and I was honest and told her I felt she didn't care about me, and that I didn't want to wake up on my birthday morning with someone who feels like that. Her response was well I have an appointment at 9 so I don't care what you do.
She tried to turn it around by saying do you really think I haven't got you a card?? Now she hasn't ever bought me a birthday card in all the years I've known her so I'm pretty certain she hasn't - but frankly I really don't care whether she has or not, and told her just that. I made it very clear that I felt she hasn't cared for a very long time and this final comment proved just that.
I have spent my birthday evening in tears and I'm fairly sure that's the end of our friendship because she'll never reach out and apologise as she's so stubborn. She's actually well known for how she speaks to people.
I'm currently at friend 2's house, still feeling upset and just wishing I could go home but it's 2am so think I'm stuck here now 😑.
