Work meal tonight. Everyone is pre ordering their drinks. I'm not.

Apparently I'll be disappointed when I have to queue at the bar. No I bloody won't. Firstly, who the hell (apart from my colleagues) wants a drink that comes in a jug? Secondly, why would you want to drink that shit with a meal? They're not even proper cocktails, they're essentially alcopops mixed with a bit of fruit.

They're all professional women 30 plus, for the record.

Ooh, they're now trying to get me to pre order a bottle of prosecco. No. Just no.

Even if you like them, you would want to have one glass from it, have other people drink the rest, then get a fresh one.

I'm also a bit confused, what do you wish to drink, just pre order what you want. I assume as it's a Xmas do, then everyone will order drinks and there will be plenty for the table and all to share.

They're ordering two jugs each! They'll be tepid by half eight as drinks will be on the tables for when we arrive. I suppose they won't care by then.

I'll probably only have a glass or two or wine. I don't relly want a cheap version of WKD with a strawberry lobbed in.

God I'm old. A few years ago I'd have been merrily ordering 27 jugs or bottles. (Actually, I'd probably have been smuggling in wine in a gift bag rather than paying £15 for house wine). Now the thought fills me with horror.

Jug cocktails aren't usually made out of alcopops, as alcopops are already marked up for brand etc - they'll be almost all soft drink (pennies to the bar), a big sploosh of juice to make it look mostly juice, then about a shot/double per person of two or three types of unbranded spirit.

I'm sort of with you. Where does one eat a meal that does not have a waiter ask about drinks? Apart from McDonalds. A cocktail or GT on arrival but cocktails with a meal? Just no. Not Prosecco either, come to that.

I'd have happily ordered wine for the table. I've just never known people order jugs of cocktails to accompany a meal. /sheltered

I saw a bunch of women on a hen's night ordering bright blue, red and green stuff in individual jugs, each with a curly straw. Mind you, this was in a Wetherspoons. They (the cocktails) looked truly horrific. I stuck to beer.
