To not want a cocktail JUG to go with my Christmas dinner.

Work meal tonight. Everyone is pre ordering their drinks. I'm not.

Apparently I'll be disappointed when I have to queue at the bar. No I bloody won't. Firstly, who the hell (apart from my colleagues) wants a drink that comes in a jug? Secondly, why would you want to drink that shit with a meal? They're not even proper cocktails, they're essentially alcopops mixed with a bit of fruit.

They're all professional women 30 plus, for the record.

Ooh, they're now trying to get me to pre order a bottle of prosecco. No. Just no.

Go to a hipster bar.

They don't do jugs. They'll give you a watering can or mop bucket or some shit.

Trills Fri 16-Dec-16 09:10:12

A cocktail jug is for sharing, anyway.

Even if you like them, you would want to have one glass from it, have other people drink the rest, then get a fresh one.

Not have it sit there getting warm.

*mop bucket*grin

I do like to preorder a drink (at the theatre). But a meal? Can't you just ask a member of the waiting staff??

Rockpebblestone Fri 16-Dec-16 09:13:14

They've not seen you with your hip-flask?

Tantrictantrum Fri 16-Dec-16 09:13:30

It's going to be busy. I'd pre order a bottle of wine

Eminybob Fri 16-Dec-16 09:13:37

Just order a glass of wine or whatever. Surely it's not mandatory to have a cocktail

OohMavis Fri 16-Dec-16 09:13:44

I'm confused, what's wrong with a jug? confused

Do professional women in their thirties not drink from jugs as a rule?

Trills Fri 16-Dec-16 09:17:40

I think a bottle of red wine is the only way to go - you won't mind it being at room temp.

NickyEds Fri 16-Dec-16 09:18:50

I'm confused too. What's wrong with prosecco or cocktails? Is it the pre ordering that's pissed you off? Or the drinks?

Why would you want to drink that shit with a meal? maybe they're adults and perfectly capable of selecting a drink they would like? Maybe different people have different tastes?

Bluntness100 Fri 16-Dec-16 09:20:23

I'm also a bit confused, what do you wish to drink, just pre order what you want. I assume as it's a Xmas do, then everyone will order drinks and there will be plenty for the table and all to share.

GlitterGlue Fri 16-Dec-16 09:21:46

They're ordering two jugs each! They'll be tepid by half eight as drinks will be on the tables for when we arrive. I suppose they won't care by then.

I'll probably only have a glass or two or wine. I don't relly want a cheap version of WKD with a strawberry lobbed in.

God I'm old. A few years ago I'd have been merrily ordering 27 jugs or bottles. (Actually, I'd probably have been smuggling in wine in a gift bag rather than paying £15 for house wine). Now the thought fills me with horror.

GlitterGlue Fri 16-Dec-16 09:23:51

I'm narked because they're complaining I'm not getting in the spirit because I don't want to order a shitload of alcohol I know I won't be able to drink.

They're not ordering to share.

AnchorDownDeepBreath Fri 16-Dec-16 09:24:52

Now the thought fills me with horror.

Why? I'm genuinely curious.

GlitterGlue Fri 16-Dec-16 09:25:48

I suggested we order a few bottles to share but have been shouted down.

GlitterGlue Fri 16-Dec-16 09:27:18

Why? Because I'm a lightweight and more than a few drinks would see me in a right state. I'd be very happy to never have a hangover again.

NickyEds Fri 16-Dec-16 09:27:37

But I don't see how you can be annoyed that they're drinking tepid cocktails? Just get your glass or two of wine. You're sounding like a bit of a misery guts tbh!! Leave 'em to it if you don't want to join in!

Soubriquet Fri 16-Dec-16 09:28:47

Just because you don't want to get tiddled doesn't mean they can't

Stop moaning. It's going to be hugely busy

What's wrong with ordering a bottle of wine or pop for when you get there?

I'm sure they will love having you missing for various parts of the night because you have to dissapear to order and then come back moaning about the queues

BestZebbie Fri 16-Dec-16 09:36:30

Jug cocktails aren't usually made out of alcopops, as alcopops are already marked up for brand etc - they'll be almost all soft drink (pennies to the bar), a big sploosh of juice to make it look mostly juice, then about a shot/double per person of two or three types of unbranded spirit.

Crumbs1 Fri 16-Dec-16 09:39:34

I'm sort of with you. Where does one eat a meal that does not have a waiter ask about drinks? Apart from McDonalds. A cocktail or GT on arrival but cocktails with a meal? Just no. Not Prosecco either, come to that.

GlitterGlue Fri 16-Dec-16 09:39:46

Ok, ok, I've stopped moaning now. I'll only have a glass or two so won't miss much even if I have to queue.

I'd have happily ordered wine for the table. I've just never known people order jugs of cocktails to accompany a meal. /sheltered

dowhatnow Fri 16-Dec-16 09:41:12

Party pooper grin Live and let live.

GlitterGlue Fri 16-Dec-16 09:41:23

Some of them have definitely got generic alcopops in them. I've seen the cocktail list.

dontbesillyhenry Fri 16-Dec-16 09:41:56

No YANBU. Give the jug of cocktail to me.
