What everyday noise drives you to distraction?

I am sitting in my favourite coffee shop and one of the members of staff needed to move a chair away from a table to place it in front of a high cupboard so she could stand on it to reach it. She dragged the chair several yards and the scraping noise made me feel like screaming. She then proceeded to do this several more times by which time I felt like my ears were bleeding. Nobody else seemed remotely bothered. My DD gets the rage from the clinking noise made when people stirring their tea/coffee for an excessive amount of time. What common place noises drive YOU mad?

People eating, I absolutely cannot bare the sound and it hurts my ears. Also the rustling of wrappers makes my ragey.

Apart from humans chewing and chomping, it's ticking clocks. And dripping taps. Regular or irregular noises like that drive me nuts. DP has a watch which is banned from the bedroom because it ticks so loudly.

DH tapping the spoon in his cereal bowl EVERY morning and then tapping the spoon ON HIS TEETH angry hmm

People eating, aaargh!!!

Also when the music producers use a ringing tone as background filler on a track, I always think my phone is ringing, so annoying.

SallyGinnamon Thu 15-Dec-16 19:02:07

Computer on and off noises. Same with my phone. Always on mute or silent.

We should start a misophonia support thread grin

Yes to chair dragging!

Yes to over enthusiastic tea stirring!

Can't do tap running in kitchen sink. Hate it. Also extractor fan sounds like a helicopter. Am very noise sensitive though and have tinnitus.

Lots of noises give me the rage. Mainly noises that come from DH!

Squalling or shrieking children. Grrrr

CaraAspen Thu 15-Dec-16 19:05:31

Anyone who dares to slurp a drink like tea. Eating crisps.

QueenMortificado Thu 15-Dec-16 19:05:39

People eating bananas
People eating anything actually
People stirring their tea for too long
The noise of crisp packets being russled
Screaming babies
Spitty talkers
Spitty talkers on the radio
Spitty talkers on songs
The high pitched noise the central heating makes

I'd really be much happier in solitary confinement I think

My induction hob is so loud you wouldn't be able to tell if I drove a car into the kitchen!

Bluntness100 Thu 15-Dec-16 19:07:52

Noise in the morning, my husband puts the tv on for the news, i just want it off and total silence.
Eating noises, it drives me nuts.

SeveredPixieBits Thu 15-Dec-16 19:08:09

Wen people text with the beepy noises still switched on.
High pitched children.
Dishes crashing together - I can't go to a local cafe because the KP is forever throwing the dishes about to get them into the dishwasher. It's the most hideous scrapey-crashy-noisy sound.

GoneGirl1234 Thu 15-Dec-16 19:08:38

Sound of a pan scraping over the gas hob covers. UGH!
Also (and aware that this is not really an "everyday sound") but on GBBO when they used slate plates and Paul Hollywood would scrape the knife over it SHUDDER

SnatchedPencil Thu 15-Dec-16 19:10:43

Other peoples' children. Yes, I am a hypocrite.

Also, the sound that you get when you squeeze the last few drops out of a nearly-empty washing-up liquid bottle. FFFFFFFUUUUUHHHHHRRRRRRR.

OH rustling. He is just so noisy. All his clothes seem to rustle really loudly. And when he fidgets in a chair angry
And how he breathes when he is asleep. (Can you tell we've been together a while!?)

Not everyday noise as such but the timer on the Christmas tree lights ticking round.

RhubarbRocks Thu 15-Dec-16 19:15:46

The Samsung whistle ringtone makes me feel physically sick - no idea why but it turns my stomach. Terrible a few years ago when everyone in the office had one.

The noise of aircon - I'd rather roast than have it on (have to compromise on hols with DP but don't get a wink of sleep)

And any electronic gadget of my mum's - she claims it's not possible to turn off the keypad noises on her phone, iPad or camera and sits clicking and pinging away for hours....!

OhBoobles Thu 15-Dec-16 19:18:21

The annoying tinny sound of shite music coming from someone's earphones on public transport.

Actually even when it's decent music I still find it unbearable. Really stresses me out for some reason!

smEGGnogg Thu 15-Dec-16 19:19:06

I don't think this counts as such but I hate when people constantly witter on through films/theatre. It's so rude but also people do it in that loud whisper that's not actually quiet at all! Gah.

I always end up with them behind or in front of me too.

JellyBelli Thu 15-Dec-16 19:19:16

The kitchen tap is dripping. My spot on the pillow is the only place in the entire fucking house where it can be clearly heard, the entire DF have had a turn lying on my pillow then practically crying with laughter.
