AIBU?

Cheesy pasta bake

My colleague is eating a huge portion of cheesy pasta bake at her desk, noisily. It stinks. She is claiming to be doing slimming world as well. AIBU to think this is not on? (The smell is going to linger for quite a while)

How can it "stink"? It's food...pasta and cheese doesn't stink.

However I think eating at desks is disgusting and shouldn;t be allowed.

The smell probably wouldn't bother me, but the noise would be excruciating.

Cheesy pasta isn't very smelly is it? Unless she's stuck a load of stinky blue cheese in it or something.

The sound of people eating makes me feel a bit sick (I have food issues).

Is there anywhere else for her to eat?

Roussette · 29/11/2016 12:53

What is she allowed to eat?

Oh ffs. Fuck off and eat your lunch somewhere else. I'm sick to fucking death of the moaning and moaning and moaning on Mumsnet. YABU!

I hate folk that eat at a desk but unless it's against the "rules" in your office then there's not a lot you can do about it.

Believe it or not cheese pasta bake is allowed on slimming world so don't judge your colleague for that!

None of your business if she is/isn't doing Slimming World. As for the cheesy smell, don't blame her, blame your employers for not providing a break/eating area.
Having to eat at your desk is awful.

Learning to eat silently should be part of the induction when new staff join a company .

Is it boiling your piss or itching your teeth?

Is she vile? Are you raging or at your wits end?

Add fuming and heartbroken to that.

I dont really see how that would smell tbh.
Agree it kight be ok on sw. Pasta is free, so is the sauce from scratch and you can have certain amounts of cheese. More substantial than a salad!

I'm eating piri piri chicken and red pepper hummus at my desk as we speak.

My workmates just said it looked ace. Because they are nice and kind and not PA fat-shamers.

YABU presuming there are no rules in your office about eating at desks.

You're also bu with your SW comment because a) it's not relevant and b) you can have cheese on slimming world you know.

There isn't anywhere else to eat, so it is reasonable to eat at her desk. But we are in a confined space and she has managed to produce a lunch with a strong smell. Slimming World is only relevant because she is always complaining that it isn't working, while grazing all day on nuts, and cake and sweets. I'm usually fairly tolerant, but it has just got to me a bit today.

Guess IABU

YABU - here is the recipe & I am also doing SW - had boiled eggs at my desk today (but I am lone working this week so can get away with it), I have to eat at my desk there is nowhere else

Ingredients
100g dried pasta shapes, such as fusilli or penne
2 baby leeks, trimmed and shredded
A few cabbage leaves, shredded
5 tbsp quark
1 tsp dried Italian herbs
5 cherry tomatoes, halved
1 level tbsp grated reduced fat mature Cheddar
Method Cook the pasta according to the packet instructions, adding the leeks and cabbage 3 minutes before the end of the cooking time. Drain well. Meanwhile, preheat the grill to high. Add the quark, herbs and tomatoes to the pasta, leek and cabbage, stir well and tip everything into an ovenproof dish that will fit under your grill. Sprinkle over the cheese and grill for 2-3 minutes or until golden. You can use other green vegetables like spinach, kale or spring onions instead of leek and cabbage, if you prefer.Prep Time 15 minutes

I hate it when people use the word 'stink' for innocuous food smells.

Does it smell foul? Because that's what stink means. And cheesy pasta bake doesn't fucking stink.

If she had farted, then it would be different.

And what Bibbity said.

Yanbu, she should be eating it on the train whilst doing her make-up and talking loudly on the phone.

Sparkesx · 29/11/2016 13:15

So what if she's doing SW? I do SW and eat pasta...

Nah you aren't a fairly tolerant person.
Someone who is tolerant but a bit miffed would have felt irritated but let it pass as it's just one meal. Some who whinges and is a pita will take the time to write out a thread as they are usually dying to complain to someone. And btw cheesy pasta does not smell Hmm

That "pasta bake" sounds grim. I can recommend Joe Wicks for real food that's easy to male and tastes good.

I can't see how cheesy pasta bake can smell that bad.

Mackerel or kippers on the other hand like the inconsiderate bastard in my office....

Your being ridiculous.

I was hoping that this thread was going to be about nice recipes for cheesy pasta bake. I see there is one already, so place marking shamelessly for more.

Are you raging, absolutely disgusted, totally grossed out etc.?? Grin Wink

Looks like I'm the only one who understands OP. I think cheesy pasta bake is a horrible smell and if you add tuna to it it actually make me feel sick.

But the smell of milk in tea also makes me heave so perhaps it's just me.
