Grin

Lighthearted - ish

Having a debate with DH over "Bucketgate" & he wont have it he is in the wrong, so he has just told me to put our debate on here to see who is nuts BU, so I am Grin

I have a bucket, a nice shiny, like new, clean, bright green bucket, that is my go to bucket if DD or I are ill. Its MY bucket & its not old, manky & smelly & very old like a couple of buckets that DH insists on keeping. DD & I are both smell sensitive (SPD). So prefer a nice clean, non smelly bucket on the odd occasion we are ill. I would also use it for clean things, such as soaking laundry in etc.

Just caught DH using MY shiny green bucket, for cleaning out his shitty fish tank water. He insists that he wont spoil it as he will wash it out properly afterwards. He has measured out water volume marks & written on the side of my shiny happy green bucket, in black indelible marker Hmm Marks he admits he wont wash off as he took ages carefully measuring out the water to the correct amount.

So basically he has 2 crappy old buckets, that he could clean out properly & use to clean his shitty fish tank water out with, but no he has "borrowed" my shiny clean bucket instead, with no real intention of putting it back in its original condition as he doesn't want to clean off the black marker pen.

SOOOOOooooooOoOOoooo...

AIBU for not wanting to share my nice, shiny, clean, bucket with DH, so he can clean his shitty fish tank water, when he has crappy buckets all of his own & "Nuts" for telling him off for helping himself??

OR IHBU for commandeering my lovely bucket, without asking with no real intentions of returning it to its original state??

Grin

Go to Wilkinsons and buy a new pink one. Write Girls Bucket on it in black pen.

Wow on Mumsnet people think you are bonkers if you don't have shared finances - you don't share buckets....

He is totally U.
However the permanent marker may come off if written over with whiteboard marker then wiped off immediately.

Kill him! Kill him!!

Seriously though, does he not worry about cross-contamination? I would think if you're using ShinyBucket for when you're poorly it gets cleaned out with detergent, if not bleach? I wouldn't measure water into my fish tank with anything that had had strong cleaning products in it...

Maybe you should start making little headstones... Grin

Is the bucket a euphemism?

Is there a hole in the bucket?

HIBU! Shock The shiny sick bucket is not for the likes of him. He sounds like he'd get on with my DH, who thinks it's appropriate to vomit into a bucket which has been kept in the garage. With garagey things in.

I see your shiny new manky-fishwater-soiled bucket, and I raise you a BRAND NEW UNUSED washing-up bowl - and my sink is a difficult size to fit - used to CHANGE THE OIL IN THE CAR!!! (it was DS though, not DH, but FFS he was in his 20s).

This happened five years ago now and I have never forgotten it - nor will I.

How rude.

What's wrong with his own buckets?

He'll kill his fish with that.

You need new buckets. More than one.
I have shiny orange B&Q £1 buckets, Dh has been using them for god knows what, and on our last trip to B&Q he added a new one to the trolley, when I asked why, he said you need a new one. Nuff said, no idea what the old one looks like it must be bad.

There is an easy solution to this - clean off his black marker, make it not worth his while to use your bucket. Then hide it.

YANBU. Clearly.

HIBVU.

In a house full of men/boys I find the best way to keep things for my sole use is to buy them in pink or with a flower pattern on. I don't particularly like pink but at least no one else pinches my travel mug, gardening gloves, small backpack, torch etc to take to scout camp Wink

Oh! Oh my - you know what you need to do now? Clean off the marks and replace them with marks just eeeever so slightly out of place Grin

Or buy several more green buckets and mark them up, then leave him to play bucket roulette next time it's time for a water change...

Why are people being sick in buckets and not toilets? Even toddler DC could make it to the toilet Confused

He owes you a bucket

Because toilets smell fucking awful.
When you're being sick (and remember OP has SPD), you don't want something else on top of that making you retch
