Anyone had any experience of tuition agency interview?

I've got an interview for a tutoring position coming up with an agency next week.

I've been asked to prepare a 5 minute starter lesson, and told to bring all resources I need for the lesson with me. The agency have said that they won't be able to provide any resources themselves.

I'm thinking of teaching the French verb 'avoir' to the Pink Panther theme tune. What do you think?

I've got worksheets with the verb conjugations written out that I'll give out before the start of the lesson. I'll also have the song playing from YouTube on my phone. I'm also thinking of bringing in my laptop, just in case I can connect to WiFi to play the song on YouTube on the laptop instead of on my phone.

Does this sound like a decent lesson? I've taught it a couple of times before in similar starter lesson situations in interviews.

Thanks everyone :)

For five minutes, for a starter, yes it sounds fine, but don't ask me I'm a science teacher! Maybe if you tried posting in the Staffroom topic (under education) you might get more helpful responses from someone who knows what they're talking about.

What I would say is, if it's one-to-one tutoring, it's different from being in a classroom as you don't have the contribution of a whole roomful, so as long as you're prepared to be potentially singing the song on your own....

I am signed up with several tuition agencies and have never been asked for an interview. Not sure if I'm unusual.

I'm a language teacher in the process of setting up a tutoring agency.

Do you mean you want to teach the song as a starter? If so I don't think 5 mins is long enough - it's an awesome idea for part of a grammar lesson though (neat crossover of systems and skills, ie grammar and listening!)

Maybe for the starter do a quick game using the target language? 5 things, vrai ou faux or similar?

Good luck!

Ooh that's a really good idea, Wei! Thanks for the tip. A game would be a really nice interactive lesson starter. Thanks as well Endoplasmic :)
