To ask you please to help me especially if you have older girls

DD has additional needs and has not been invited to a party since she was in reception. For the record she is not unkind or badly behaved she just spends a lot of time alone and although she has always had people she has played on and off with when younger of sorts she has never been close enough to anyone to be invited since whole class parties stopped.

Now 14 she has very very slowly but steadily become part of a group of children at school and for the first time actually seems to have proper friends although it is more she has been included and enveloped within a group of confident children who seem to have taken her on.

DD has got a party invitation from one of the teens in her friendship group. She is so excited bless her. The party is a roller disco. DD goes for comfort rather than style usually due to sensory issues and literally has nothing that isn't leggings or trainers or suitable for a party!

She is desperate to not look out of place and so wants me to ask what kind of things your teens would wear to a roller disco party.

I have name changed btw purely because I have discussed her past school issues, exh issues and health fairly extensively on Mumsnet and don't want it linked if someone recognises us in RL

If she is comfy in leggings and it's a roller skating party then I'd suggest leggings and a longer top, maybe with a bit of a print on it. Trainers fine too as she'll only be wearing them to and from the venue.

My teen dd wears casual clothes for roller skating - you have to protect legs and arms and not leave them bare in case of falling. Leggings and trainers sound perfect.

I think it being a roller disco is a bit of a blessing as it narrows down the options a bit.

IF DD didn't have sensory issues I'd say a nice pair of jeans and a trendy tshirt. However, if she Is comfortable in leggings /jeggins and a long enough top to cover her bum then that would be perfect I'm sure.

Can she not ask one or two of the others what they're planning on wearing?

My DD and her friends all seem to permanently wear leggings and T-shirts with a checked shirt over the top and trainers/converse-style shoes.

Sounds like your DD would fit right in with them.

Could you afford to take her shopping for something new and ask her if she would like one of her friends to come with her? That way she and her friend can choose something together that will be fashionable and she wont feel out of place.

DD is 14 and would wear jeans or jeggings, but leggings would be fine too, with a longish tshirt/tunic and converse type trainers. Little bit of make up too.

We own a (note the singular!) party Tshirt that the 2 middle girls share :o The older one wears it as a fitted top, the other as a tunic. Its a silvery grey next one my sister bought the older one a few years ago, covered in sequins. It goes over the same jeans and leggings!

I was a teen in the 80's when wearing jeans as going out clothes only really became a thing later on in the decade. I wore some fucking shocking outfits, all dresses and all totally OTT, but as we all wore them it was ok.

Watch 1982 Top of the Pops on BBC Four to see the sort of shite we wore. Short ballgown type dresses at a disco ffs! :o

Topshop jeans seem to be v.popular or so I'm told. At £36 a pair I'm resigned too primark and charity shops till she leaves home.

Mine is 16 and lives in black leggings. She just bought herself a longline sleeveless black waistcoat for £8 from primark which she assures me is all the rage at the mo so that might be nice with a coloured long sleeve t and black leggings? Oh and yes converse or uggs is all she wears.

I'd say black leggings, vest top, check shirt. Adidas allstars or converse seem to be the shoe of choice amongst DD's peers although mine prefers timberland style boots. Tbh, it seems to be more about the eyebrows than the clothes!!

I think for roller skating leggings sound fine, but if she wants to branch out a bit then maybe have a look at Topshop Joni jeans - they're very tight but soft and stretchy - more like denim leggings with a zip and button.

My dd who is the same age lives in jeans and trainers. So what you daughter wears sounds fine. Dd says she would wear leggings and a longish top and some light makeup.

Primark superskinny jeans are a great alternative to topshop Joni jeans.
Plus a vest top and check shirt.
PP spot on about eyebrows; so long as they are "on fleek", leggings and a tshirt would be fine.

Primark skinny jeans - like leggings, dd aged 13 and all her friends wear these all the time, otherwise leggings would do. A longer t shirt, the type with numbers on the front / adidas type style are very popular and a zip up hoodie. That's what dd would wear anyway!
