It's for a dance show... He is 4. Would you be happy with this?

What's the problem?

Can't see an issue

I think it's fine.

I'm baffled. What's the problem?

My only real concern would be that he'd be cold..

Bermuda shorts or budgie smugglers ?

Maybe my dc's dance teacher was a bit old-school but she had a rule of no girls' bare midriffs, and no tops off for boys until they were 16.

I'd worry about him being cold too. Could you get one of those long sleeved uv suits instead so you can layer vest/shorts under it if needed?

Fadingmemory · 25/11/2016 17:37

What does he think?

Report
wwoonn · 25/11/2016 17:38

It has to be swimming trunks...

He doesn't care, but he's 4, he wouldn't see an issue...

Obviously just me then Grin thanks!

No I agree with you actually. At this age there's no real difference between boys and girls and when my DDs were 4 I wouldn't have wanted them on stage in just their knickers.

I would feel uncomfortable if my son was asked to do this. I don't have a real reason, just one of those feelings. I'd be tempted to put him in swim shorts and say that's what he wears to go swimming.

We need more context I think.

If they are dancing to a song about the summer and going on holiday and it's a case of swim shorts are appropriate as its a costume I don't think it's as bad as they are expecting tight swim shorts like a leotard/ cycle shorts because in dance school they would wear a vest at least with them until much older and at the stage of per reforming in this type of costume.

Do you let him go swimming or to the beach in just swimming trunks?

wwoonn · 25/11/2016 17:50

The theme is 'At the Seaside' but I don't know really

Might be a bit chilly but apart from that YABU

Report
lougle · 25/11/2016 17:51

Would you make him cover up at the seaside?

Report
wwoonn · 25/11/2016 17:58

I do feel like it's different

I feel at this point it is necessary to post this Jack picture , incase anybody needs to know what eye candy swimming trunks look like!

Why is it different?

I really can't see a problem but if your not happy with it talk to the teacher and ask if he can wear a t shirt too.

lougle · 25/11/2016 18:01

Lola111 Hmm we're talking about a 4 year old. There will be no 'eye candy' and that is grossly inappropriate, imo.

Surely a bit chilly? Couldn't they wear shorts and tops or something if it's to convey summer / holidays etc.

Could he wear the sort of trunks that are more like shorts (not the loose Bermuda ones, the tighter trunks, if you see what I mean), rather than budgie smugglers?

WorraLiberty · 25/11/2016 18:02

You haven't explained what your problem is OP and why you feel this is different.

Are you worried some adults will get sexually excited?

Report
Ilovetorrentialrain · 25/11/2016 18:02

OP it is different to being at the beach, I agree - totally unnecessary and potentially embarrssing for him! Swimming trunks have the same coverage as a pair of undies - he's got to stand on stage in from of parents and - worse - his mates like that?

Could he maybe wear swim type shorts and a vest?
