WIBU refusing to move my car?

Eating a sandwich in my car in a P&D carpark. Still had 15 mins left on my ticket.
I'm surprised mid bite by a man tapping on the window. I open car window and he asks if I'm going.

I gesture to the sandwich and tell him I'm going to finish it first.
His response: "You've got the last space and there's nowhere else to park. You need to move now."

I'm now annoyed and again tell him I'll move when I've eaten my sandwich. I'll only be a minute. He leaves muttering under his breath that it's not a bloody restaurant and I'm a bloody cow.

Was IBU not to move? He promptly got a space over the other side of the car park. In my defence I'd had a busy morning, it was after 2pm and I was really hungry.

Something similar happened to me in a hospital car park - I was on the phone to a family member passing on news about my Dad's heart attack. I refused to move until I was ready.

Of course not, you still had a valid ticket at the time! And you can eat in your (stationary) car if you want to! Impatient rude man.

YWNBU you'd bought your ticket so were entitled to be there. I think if he'd been extremely polite in asking I would have moved but definitely not with that attitude. He might have had bad news etc but that's not your fault.

I would have move if they asked nicely, it's very frustrating when people faff about before leaving when the car park is so busy people are waiting for spaces.

But as he was rude and told you to move rather than asked politely,I'd have done exactly what you did

No way would I have moved for that attitude! Had I been asked politely how long I'd be as 'they were in a hurry and there was no other spaces' then I might have considered it. I'm sincerely hoping you didn't start moving your car til 14 mins and 59secs had elapsed.

Ywnbu, it's been pretty cold and rainy outside recently and even if not you are perfectly entitled to eat sat in your own car especially when you'd paid to park there, its better than driving and eating what did he expect you to do! It's reasonable to ask if someone's about to leave so you don't have to keep driving round then someone else coming in the car park after nabs the space but if they say no or not yet then you move on to go find another space!

I would have done worse, I would have gone and put another hour on my ticket then walked off.

I am not always a cow, I frequently offer my ticket To the next person if there is lots of time on it but I hate rudeness.

They're not obligated to move faster just for your benefit when they still have time left on their ticket.

If it was a warmer day you may have sat on a bench to enjoy your sandwich. You chose to sit in the car. You wanted to eat before you left. You can't drive and eat.

That's the thing though isn't it? It's their space. If they've paid then they can sit in the car or faff about around it for 4 hours if they want.

I hate it when someone is waiting for my space and I feel like I have to get the shopping, toddler and pushchair in the car and get out immediately, especially if i can see they are getting annoyed.

Had a similar thing recently....kids had activity at sports centre..partner would take kids straight there and I would meet him there after work....as would be hungry, asked partner to bring me some food. So parked up and stood at back of car eating a pastie before going in. Saw this woman circling car park, then she stops, runs at me yelling "WILL YOU HURRY UP AND GO".....to which I say "Sorry love, only just got here!!!!" and she scuttled off embarrassed..

Stopping to eat your lunch is just as valid a reason for parking your car as any other. YANBU.

Have you ever played the car park game, where in large busy car parks, drivers see you with your shopping so follow you, thinking you are leaving and they can have your space....once, fed up of this and the pressure they put on you to be quick getting in your car and leaving, by staring at you, we walked confidently round the car park, then when we had "hooked" one, ran quick in the other direction and jumped in the car before they could see where we went.....sad aren't I?!!
