To think this eBay message is emotional blackmail?

Backstory.
I bought shoes from eBay, pretty cheap and so not expecting them to last over a year. I've been to China lots and so know the quality issues. They fell apart after 4 weeks.
I wrote to the seller. They offered a 5% refund. Then asked me to repair them, I explained this would cost more than the shoes, then a 10% refund. I've said full refund.
Now they've sent three emails saying half. I've taken it up with eBay.

I got this this morning.

Just let eBay deal with it. Sob stories are quite common. eBay typically finds in the buyers favour anyway.

It's bollocks. Ignore it and carry on. I had a similarly badly worded one asking me to remove negative feedback to receive 10% of the value of the item I had bought. I reported them to ebay.

Also, have a look at how many previous feedback there have been - is this a seller with thousands of items for sale and thousands of feedback (as mine was), or could they be an individual? That might change my talk.

She's probably making thousands of pairs of these crappy shoes for some vicious gang master and has to pay for the raw materials. Next time buy from a reputable store. 4 weeks for something you bought from an unknown seller in China isn't that bad!

I would just leave it and chalk it down to experience. I suppose you get what you pay for but I'd hate to think of anyone in China struggling whilst I haggle over the cost of a cheap pair o shoes.

Yes but buying from abroad is a risk, isn't it. I don't think you have the same consumer protection rights that you have here. Look, you can keep bashing this person over the head with your demand for a full refund or you can put it down to experience. How much are we talking anyway, a tenner?

My father happens to run production for a large European shoe manufacturer in China. There's not too much slavery that goes on in shoe factories. It's much like here. People get mega rich paying workers next to nothing.

Open a return case with eBay (not as described) The seller will have no choice but to accept the return and will also have to pay for you to send them back. If the seller does not respond, you will be refunded and also get to keep the shoes.

I am an eBay business seller and she is just trying it on.

I'm sorry to hijack the thread but while I'm here can I tell you about a Scam I've just discovered on eBay?

You might all already know and possibly I'm the last person to find out

I ordered a couple of Pokemon soft toys last Saturday, they were from China so I paid £10 postage for them which I thought was fair enough as it was international postage.
However, the items arrived on Wednesday (wasn't expecting them till beginning of December) They were sent from the UK 2nd class post so although I'd paid £10 it only cost the sender probably £3 to send them.

I've heard of this the other way round ordering something thinking its a UK seller then being sent from china but I have never heard of this one.

Tbh yes, normally I'd be saying report to eBay, fight for the refund etc, but you don't seem particularly bothered about the people making your products (not too much slavery? That's fine then) so I can't get too worked up on your behalf about you being scammed out of £28.
If you want crap quality and the dissatisfaction of knowing that the workers who made the goods had a shit working life, all for a low price, you could have just gone to Primark.
