HUGE HUGE apologies to a reasonably recent OP who posted about paracetamol .

I did not think there was anyone out there who didn't know about the risks of taking too much / medicines that contained paracetamol but seems I should have looked closer to home.

My ex boss used to massively overdose on lemsip. No one told him because we all hated him. He's still alive, years later, though

It's got aspartame in it too. I just make my own honey lemon and hot water and take ibroprofen instead.

Hot ribena and paracetamol capsules are better for absolutely everything. Lemsip is rank.

I didn't know for ages either. I must have taken it with tablet paracetamol so many times Shock

I am really astonished. I have teenagers and often 'remind' them about perils of painkillers but had no clue that husband needed lecture more than them...

My dad didn't know either. He told me to take two close together when I was 15. I protested but he said it was fine and I trusted him. I threw up all night Confused

I knew they had paracetamol but don't actually consider how closely I drink lemsip. Need to check dosage..

bbc. I know what he'll say 'Err, cold stuff...' 😂

Recently I've had a very bad cold and separately an infection and I've tried night nurse. The juggling of drugs has been like a complicated version of sudoku!😬

There's even a limit on how many packs of paracetamol a person can buy in one go! (2 I think?)

The dangers of ODing aren't just death it's the subtle damage it does to kidneys etc over long periods of time. Just make sure he fully understands now!

I'm not judging as I have recently had to explain this to my DP when he gave me a handful of 2 "ibuprofen" 2 paracetamol tablets and it ended up actually being 4 paracetamol tablets (different packs he didn't even look at the bloody box!) luckily i buy all the drugs in this house so knew we only get sugar coated ibuprofen Grin IDIOT!

I once swigged down two Benylin tablets with the dregs of a Lempsip. I really wasn't thinking straight. Felt distinctly odd for the rest of the day, cold and not with it. Never again, very scary.

Part of me thinks "FFS don't people think, don't they know what they're taking?" but my main feeling is that Lemsip shouldn't be sold. True, people should be aware of what they're taking and I think it's ridiculous when people just take "an Anadin" and don't know what's in it. But Lemsip? You wouldn't necessarily think to even check the packet. It's a hot drink. Lots of people are given it as kids the same way other kids are given Lucozade or hot Ribena. I don't know about anyone else but I'm not in the habit of checking drinks I buy for drugs. And I know I'll probably be accused of nanny-statism but I feel that medications should come in a format that screams "I am a medication" - tablets, capsules, medicated creams, suspensions like Calpol - and not one that just looks like ordinary groceries.

Bog standard Lemsip powder only has 650mg paracetamol in it, that's not even a proper dose. Only the max strength ones have the full 1g.
I don't know why anyone bothers with it.

When I mention the thing about what they had as kids, I mean that you're there in the supermarket, you've got a rotten cold, and you remember that when you're poorly, you've always had Ribena/Lemsip/Lucozade, and you buy some Lemsip. Because that's what you've always done when you had a cold and that's what your dad gave you when you were poorly. It's like nostalgia/habit, it gives you some comfort.
