AIBU?

To tell collegue to STFU about me having a pod coffee / tea machine at work

She always makes some snide remark about me "littering the planet" when I just want a drink from my own machine, that I paid for and got permission and PAT tested to have it in work, when on my break. Is it too much to ask her to just shut up?

No, just tell her to stfu, it's fine. I've just discovered that a colleague has a Tassimo in her office and she's offered me the use. I won't lie, I will be taking the pods home, there is a recycling place near where I live and I recycle like a mad thing. I've just checked the level of all of the bins, none are full enough to put out for tomorrow's collection. :)

I'd go for an eye roll and an audible groan.

We have one in work, as a a&e worker a little luxury on a cruelling shift makes up for it. < came out of our funds>

Tell her "Not your circus, not your monkeys".

Tell her you take them to the recycling place! Like PP said I have a tassimo and drop them off when the box is full.

I dunno about this one. Over consumption and wasteful behaviour has probably contributed to our planet heating up faster then it should and thus ending civilisation as we know it. It must be annoying if they keep banging on about it especially if you are singled out but it wouldn't hurt for us all to reduce waste and consume less.

Why not get some of those compostable pods?

Lots of recycling places won't take the pods, I'm guessing you're local one doesn't.

Just had a look and the nearest recycling places for them are about 50-60 mins away :(

We have a nespresso machine, and the company take away old pods when they deliver new ones.

Why not just take a cafetiere or similar?

Any chance they offer a service where you can post the empties back to them for free?

At my work we have recyclable bins, however if you don't may I suggest you take yours home.

Tell her to STFU.

It's never even occurred to me to recycle my coffee pods. Sorry, I just chuck them in the bin!

Some small charities collect Tassimo pods for recycling, i.e. School PTAs.

Those coffee pods are terrible for the planet. So yabu. She is right.

You just need to find out something she does that litters the planet.
Coffee cups from Starbucks?
Driving?
Using electricity that is non essential?

Everyone has a carbon footprint.

We should all try to use less and recycle. But I bet we all - and that includes the lady in question - do many things that have an impact that we don't realise.

Its really really hard to phrase what i am going to say as I don't mean to be mean, just factual.
Pods if they're unrecycled are a waste and are so bad for the environment (sorry). Even if recycled there is still waste in their production/re-production.
Although I wouldn't go on about it like her. I agree with the sentiment and although i love coffee, I would not have a pod machine.
I think our children will have to think a lot more about sustainability than we do. There's so much unnecessary waste in our day to day products, like their grandparents, our children will look back at us and be amazed at how much we wasted.

How about reusable pods:

whether she is correct about the recycling issues or not, she should not be bitching about you in the work place.

They are dreadful for the planet. So whilst it's annoying, she does have a point.

Our planet is fucked, a few coffee pods are really not going to slow the extinction event.

What sort is it? We drop Nespresso pods to a collect plus point near work for free return to the recycling plant. We also have a local organiser for the charity www.kickscount.org.uk/fundraising/recycling/ who takes biscuit wrappers and Tassimo pods.
