Even MN is infested; 'super cute', 'super excited', 'super fun'.

I can only hear it in a dreadful voice and it's grating.

How have so many otherwise intelligent adults so thoroughly adopted this in so short a space of time?

Manumission Mon 21-Nov-16 13:21:31

Just me then grin

Maybe I should move to California and immerse.

GeillisTheWitch Mon 21-Nov-16 13:22:22

YANBU. It's super annoying.

MuseumOfCurry Mon 21-Nov-16 13:22:24

I agree, it's terrible.

SeasonalVag Mon 21-Nov-16 13:22:35

that would be super fun!

MuseumOfCurry Mon 21-Nov-16 13:22:44

YANBU. It's super annoying

Bwah. It had to happen.

JennyOnAPlate Mon 21-Nov-16 13:23:49

No yanbu. It's an American thing I think, isn't it? We seem to be adopting more and more Americanisms.

Manumission Mon 21-Nov-16 13:24:12

grin

<quietly 'buts the wall>

Manumission Mon 21-Nov-16 13:24:57

We've only just got over the Australian rising inflection thing, though (?) smile

SaucyJack Mon 21-Nov-16 13:27:55

Is Super Hans OK?

Don't give a fuck if he isn't, TBH.

JustGettingStarted Mon 21-Nov-16 13:29:03

Super? Not bothered.

But remember a few weeks ago when someone was talking about "sups?" That was horrendous.

Tiptoethr0ughthetulips Mon 21-Nov-16 13:29:36

YANBU it's an awful Americanism. What's wrong with very?

Manumission Mon 21-Nov-16 13:29:47

I dunno. Do you say it in a breathy voice?

MuseumOfCurry Mon 21-Nov-16 13:30:21

Super Hans has got to be OK. It just has to.

dannydyerismydad Mon 21-Nov-16 13:30:33

Awwww. Hun. But you're such a Supermum.

Manumission Mon 21-Nov-16 13:31:08

What's wrong with very?

Search me. It worked for centuries smile

Manumission Mon 21-Nov-16 13:32:03

Super Hans has got to be OK. It just has to.

<nod along blankly>

Hans is a proper noun, so fine by me.

JustGettingStarted Mon 21-Nov-16 13:32:06

Fuck those Americanisms. I don't let my little ones play with the yanks on the street because I don't want them to pick up any narsty habits. shudders

hoddtastic Mon 21-Nov-16 13:32:12

super selective is the one that fucks me off on here

MuseumOfCurry Mon 21-Nov-16 13:33:35

super selective is the one that fucks me off on here

That's probably the one reasonable use of it that I can think of.

JustGettingStarted Mon 21-Nov-16 13:33:47

Nobody cares about Veryman.

Soubriquet Mon 21-Nov-16 13:36:43

Oh but it's super fun to say everything is super good

I mean you are super unreasonable to suggest otherwise

Had to happen grin

BarbaraofSeville Mon 21-Nov-16 13:38:34

I came on here to say super selective. I have no idea what it means and seems to be a bit of a MN 'thing'.

I'm guessing it's some way of saying that your DC are more intelligent than anyone elses and/or you have more money than everyone else because you can afford to live near the best schools.

Manumission Mon 21-Nov-16 13:41:18

I actually thought that 'super selective' was a real but niche term, completely overused on MN. Similar to the much vaunted 'RG' Unis.

DoItTooJulia Mon 21-Nov-16 13:41:26

<boring alert> having just been through secondary school admisssions I know what superselective means! It means a selective school with no catchment.

Now that I've read this thread, I can't say/read super without it looking all funny and weird. smile
