Arguing on the internet is a pointless activity. grin

AIBU is a joke topic IMO. All to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Saw a meme that summed it up. It said arguing with someone on the internet is like playing chess with a pigeon. Doesn't matter how well you play, it will just shit on the board and strut about like it's won anyway.

PhilODox Sun 20-Nov-16 21:32:40

No it isn't!

i wonder how much time we take to reply to threads that annoy us and then spend hours arguing with strangers. it is pointless

And yet you took the time to post this thread.

That's three minutes of my life I'll never get back. grin

I am a member of a dodgy horse dealers fb group.

I spend much of my time like this.

I try and behave online as I would in real life. Occasionally, as in real life, I'm a tear. Then I apologise, we all have a glass of wine or whatever and we move on. What I can't understand is why people have to be mean. Truly nasty. It just seems so sad.

I'm a twat* not a tear. Though I do cry sometimes too.

I like arguing on t'internet.

It's like an extreme sport for lazy people.

I love that. So true.

I'm doing my arguing when bad advice might cause some harm to children.
For example: "my GP said that I can give some paracetamol to my child, so they wouldn't get ill, so that's what I'm doing before weather gets cold". Yes, that's exactly how it was said.
I called this woman an idiot and told others to ignore this advice. Also demanded the name of GP, but obviously didn't get it, because GP didn't say it, I suspect.

I also got too angry at her. Was fuming angry for a whole day.

So yeah, in that type of situations I do argue. In others - can't be bothered.

I don't have the brain power to fight on the internet. I did enough of it in my teens. Now it just seems stupid and pointless. You'd never argue with strangers in a room, why do it on the Internet?

PurpleDaisies Sun 20-Nov-16 21:54:03

If a stranger was discussing an issue with me and I felt they were wrong, I'd put across my point of view.

Sparklingbrook Sun 20-Nov-16 21:55:12

This is the internet. You can't save people from themselves.

Some could do with getting off the internet and sorting out some RL proper advice. Especially with medical/relationship matters.

ExitPursuedBySpartacus Sun 20-Nov-16 21:59:48

I argue more in real life.

I'm a total arse.

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe Sun 20-Nov-16 22:02:12

I never argue.

Candlestickchick Sun 20-Nov-16 22:03:58

It's interesting to debate ideas though IMO
