To think the Kardashians are not that bad...

I'm prepared to be absolutely flamed for this but here goes.

I think the kardashians are vain and wealth obsessed. However the general publics reaction towards them seems to be they are hideous awful people who commit heinous acts. Am I being unreasonable to think they aren't that harmful. Watching the show they are very loving and supportive of each other. Kim has spoken out quite vocally before about social issues such as racism and the Armenian genocide. Sure they are self-obsessed, but I think I'd rather spend time with them than some of the abusive male celebs who are put on a pedestal and whose actions are exonerated.

They are sending out the message that if our DDs have plastic surgery and pose for photos with very few clothes on then life will be just fine. This may be what you want for your DD but I have other ideas.

It's the constant need for attention which I find boring and the whole selfie craze has exploded. People think it's normal. No! I witnessed teens taking selfies in a public toilet a few days ago they looked like kardashian wannabes and very odd.

You can always find someone worse. I don't think badness is necessary a relative concept, a lot of people can be different degrees of bad without the need to refer to one as better.

I find them nauseating and pointless.

Their mother makes my skin crawl - awful, awful woman. A horrible, childish narcissist who seems to view her daughters as commodities.

I just don't get them. Plus I think they're terrible role models for teenage girls (along with all those TOWIE girls etc).

Is taking selfies that harmful though? It's just what teenagers do these days. As long as they are not spending all day just taking photos is the odd picture of their face going to hurt them?

The kardashians don't do drugs and they are not heavy drinkers, (apart from kourtneys ex). Kris is clearly a very clever business woman and Kim has built a career on her 'brand' which suggests some intelligence.

From what I understand, she married into wealth? That's not exactly Feminist of The Year territory, is it. That's the same argument people use about Katie Price, who made herself famous by going topless.

Kim has built a career from a sextape, spending her own interited wealth and taking pictures of her artificially constructed body in sexy poses.

She is not anyone I would ever admire or want my children to look up to.

My point is that people's response to mentions of the kardashians is akin to people's reactions to fascist dictators. I don't think they are in any way 'awesome role models' I just think the hysteria around how 'awful they are' is too much and often based on misogyny.

I don't think it's misogyny to say something negative about a person that happens to be a woman.

I do see what you're saying OP - there are far worse things than the Kardashians out there, in the grand scheme of things - but as an entity, the concept of them is a bit... silly. I mean, what are they FOR exactly?

I think it is more likely to be based on prostituting your daughters is not generally regarded as a positive.
There is more to my DDs than their cup size and makeup thickness.

There may be worse out there, but there's also an awful lot better.

I agree with Pestilence13610

I just can't bear the whole 'look at me' thing. They're a family of oddballs who happen to be rich and we're expected to want to follow their every move? Why? What do they do that's interesting?

Misogyny my eyeball. They're boring as fuck (inc. the brother and Bruce/Caitlyn) and all they do is take selfies. Hopefully their star is on the wane a bit now. But no doubt someone equally as vacuous will be along to take their place.

And as for the youngest sister who's still just a teen but is unrecognisable from all the plastic surgery she's already had? That is so goddamn depressing.

YANBU i dont particularly like them but i dont understand the level of hatred directed against them. A lot of the things people hate about them are general problems with society that i dont think they can really be held responsible for. I guess people just find it easy to blame someone specific rather than think about the bigger picture. And i guess theres an element of jealousy that these people have managed to make money from seeming to just stand about whilst we all have to work hard... but the thing is, who is funding the Kardashians?! someone must be buying into it, a lot of people in fact and i think the problem is more that society now days likes to focus on a dream of personal success rather than working together to help each other. Rather than wasting time hating the Kardashians perhaps wed all be spending our energy better by engaging with our communities and encouraging people to think of each other and help each other rather than continually screw each other over for the chance to become rich.

I don't understand the hatred either. I can't watch the show, I find it too boring, so I simply ignore them. I guess some people like to "hate" someone, if they get out of their way to watch them, follow them on social media and insult them.

I am a bit puzzled by the way some people are famous just for being famous, but I guess that must require some work. They are everywhere. It's sad that our world is more in awe of someone's photo than a beautiful athlete, or even an actress, but here we go.

The one person I dislike is Caitlyn Jenner. It's horrific that you can cause the death of an innocent woman, and still parade in front of the media like nothing happens. No decency whatsoever.

I don't know the kardashians so I don't hate them.

But I do hate what they stand for.

I don't think there's anything actually bad about them - they seem perfectly pleasant. But I don't think they've done anything particularly good either.

I don't think they're the problem, as you've already said they have done some work for some good causes. They also seem like ok people and you're right that they don't do drugs, drink etc. They're more a symptom of today's issues; selfies, money, being famous etc...
