Scottish schools and residential trips

Totally random question, but is it true that all schools in Scotland offer a residential trip to 5/6 year olds, 4 or 5 nights, and that this is taken up enthusiastically by parents?! Or did they mean 9/10 year olds???

I can only speak about the school my children went to but it is generally primary 6 - so roughly 10yr olds. But because it cost £400 only about half the class went.

My daughter is going on her first trip in 2017 (Primary 6 age 10). I went to Chester with my school at her age. It was good fun.

No they don't. Where we are our local schools offer a residential in P7 so 11 year old. Only for 2 nights.

It'll be P5/6 (Year 5/6) not aged 5/6

Primary 7 pupils only around here. Monday to Friday usually.

My wee ones went away with the school in P5 for 4 nights for an outdoor education residential course.

Nothing was ever offered younger than that.

No...schools in Scotland offer residential trips 2-5 days usually to primary 6-primary 7 children ..English equivalent Year 7 -8. It's not compulsory and children opt out for various reasons.

Here its P7 so 11 - 12yr olds.
They meet up with all the other primary school p7's they will meet at high school (although they will have met some of them already as schools are linked for many things) and spend 3 days (2 nights) doing outdoor adventure stuff. They love it.

P7 here, too. Only a few nights at a place 70 miles away. DDs already been there with brownies--it cost £150

Dd went in Primary 7 and that is the only year a residential trip is offered at that primary school.

The residential trips at our schools are Primary 7 - Friday to Monday its at an outdoor adventure place, it costs £150

The secondary School does the same residential for the first years, same place and amount of days but at a cost of £250
My children are not into outdoorsy things like kayaks and abseiling so they didn't bother going

The school trips for the 5/6 year olds (primary 1 & 2) are usually just an afternoon on the farm or garden centre.

P7 go on a residential trip at my kids school. Definitely not 5 and 6 year olds.

They do one for P3/4 round here...Monday to Friday to a centre about 10 miles away.

Another in P5/6 further away and then the P7 transitional one for all the cluster schools.

Most pupils go, but not all and enough don't that it's not an issue if they don't.

I have to say, if you're worried about age, our Rainbows (5-6) regularly have overnight sleepovers.

Ours do P5-7. Small school so all encouraged to go each year. Trips seem really fun.
