Aibu to want to remove the kids you tube app from dd1s tablet

My dd1 (5yr old) was very lucky and won a colouring competition with the prize being a tablet - great. This was a few months ago she now,if allowed to, will spend endless hours plugged in to it glued to kids you tube which I find quite disturbing it is full of films of adults pretending to play with dolls etc I find this quite disturbing for and the films also trying to advertise toys that I then get pestered for. My daughters behaviour has changed she zones out and is unresponsive when asked a question she now refuses to have a bedtime story which she used to love at bedtime, she gets so absorbed in it she will wet herself and deny having done so and refuses to go to the toilet if I remind/ask her. I want to remove kids you tube from the tablet and only let her have tablet for educational purposes and learning games but you can imagine the response I would get if I do this. AIBU

She's five! She doesn't need to be using a tablet for hours even if it wasn't just YouTube. Take the app off. You're in charge here.

I would just remove the app. You can set timers on the app instead if that would help

Do you want her to give up the tablet altogether or just YouTube Kids? She might resist going cold turkey so you could distract her by adding some apps/games you approve of.
I know what you mean about the quality of YouTube Kids. We have a few different things to watch for this reason eg the i-player kids app so my son can watch CBeebies. It doesn't stop the zoning out but I prefer the quality of the programmes.
Also try some apps instead that test her brain. At least they'd be interactive and she could be learning something.

I wouldn't remove the app

I would remove the tablet full stop

If she isn't mature enough to go to the toilet whilst on it, she isn't mature enough to have it

Set a timer, if she moans then take it away for 1 day.

She's five years old and you are worried about her response, yet you have seen a significant decline in her behaviour since she's had the tablet. Be a parent, get rid of the tablet.

YouTube can be amazing but your child must be mature enough to deal with it. My 3 year old knows all the phases of the moon, the planets and it has really helped his phonics too but you need to monitor what they watch carefully. I wouldn't withdraw the tablet completely, it's a fabulous learning tool. Maybe use it together?

So you're not going to do it, because if the response you'll get? Is this for real?

The problem isn't the app. You need to allocate time to allow watching videos and stick strictly to that timetable. in fact the same goes for educational games too.

The 'adults with dolls' clips you mention - are they the Barbie ones? Where Barbie and Ken get it on?? Then yes, remove it.

My DD, although at the time a tween, was searching Barbie clips and I was quiet happy, until I found out exactly what they were!

Are you talking about this app? itunes.apple.com/gb/app/youtube-kids/id936971630?mt=8

If so, you need to play around with the settings. It has features such as turning off search and timer, plus you can flag innapropriate videos.

She's five.

You're the parent.

Just parent her and remove the tablet / app when you don't want her to have it.

And the YouTube app has a timer. Once it reaches the time limit, it switches off. So perfectly manageable if you want to manage her use.

I would take the tablet off her & sell it on Ebay. End of discussion. She is clearly not ready for it.

We saw some changes like this when we allowed my 3 yr old to start watching some television ( damn Peppa Pig) Isn't asking for stories any more, isn't drawing, stopping peeing in the toilet and wanting to pee in the potty so she can still see/ hear TV, asking for more and more and having tantrums.
