I have come into contact with several enormous attention seekers in the past, and have managed to distance myself/disengage/avoid.
However a woman that I work with is one too, obviously it's difficult to avoid her as I work for a small firm and there are 12 of us within a very compact office, so I'm stuck with her!
Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING has to revolve around her. She is always telling her life story or talking about her latest drama at the top of her voice and expects us all to be an excited, engaged audience. Nothing is ever simple for her, there is always a story and a drama. This morning after an hour of being at work she decided to go and work from home as she has a cold, and then decided she was 'worried' about making the (5 minute) car journey home with a cold and asked if one of us could call her after 10 minutes to check she was ok, which one of the sheep others did.
If anyone is ever popping to the shop she always wants loads of things that take ages to find, and never has any cash on her so gives people her bank card and asks them to get her money from the cashpoint too. She'll never say 'Oh I'll just have a chocolate bar', it's always about 10 items. It just makes a trip to the shop a pain in the arse for whoever is going!
She makes a huge fuss when she does anything good at work, and talks about it loudly. We all do the same job pretty much.
And worst of all, if ever anyone else has any problems or bad times in their lives, she will then come up later that day with a really obscure problem to trump what they've just said, and to bring attention back to her. One colleague split from her husband recently and was quite upset. Attention seeker then comes back after lunch in floods of tears saying she thinks her bank account is £20 down and someone must have hacked it!
The split in the office is about 50/50 of people who fawn over her and are her minions and people, like me, who don't get drawn into things and are polite and nice to her but don't get involved.
She is driving me fucking crackers though!
