The background as briefly as possible !

I have been ill quite a few times over the last year, just silly infections which for whatever reason have gone out of control and I have ended up in hospital. Things like pneumonia , flu, tonsiltis, quinsy. I have been in hospital 5 times in the last 12 months. I went through a phase of being well over the summer and thought it was over but a few weeks ago got quinsy (again) and ended up back in hospital. I had sepsis twice.

Saw my gp yesterday and she basically said that for whatever reason I seem to be really prone to infections ATM and basically if I get so much as a sore throat or a sniffle go straight in and don't wait for it to get better in it's own. Tbh I was hoping not to feel ill again anyway.

This morning I woke up and I feel like my skin is so sore on one side of my body in two areas one across my neck and on one thigh but also not around my ribs. It's just my skin! It feels like I should have a sore or a rash - but I don't.

This evening I feel fevery.

Here is the massive but

I also suffer with anxiety- not particularly health anxiety but with everything i realise I must be thinking more about my health than normal.

I KNOW that the skin thing is probably nothing and the fever thing could well be a feeling of anxiety since my temp is actually ok I think.

I haven't told dh anything because tbh I think he will over react and insist on a gp appointment tomorrow if it's still the same.

Aibu to put this down to anxiety? I have no REAL symptoms of actually being ill just feeling not right. Dh would say I'm unreasonable I know but then he isn't the one who feels like I may as well move in to the hospital.

Sounds a bit like imminent flu, that always makes my skin feel funny. I would go in, your GP told you too at the slightest hint. They don't encourage people to go in for fun.

Sounds like shingles, get yourself seen.

Sounds like a perfect description of shingles - go and get checked out.

Argh shingles?! Sad so is there anything the gp can do for shingles ? Also how serious is shingles I really really really don't want to do the whole hospital thing again. Last time I had to dress a naked woman Angry

I'd get yourself checked for shingles too.

Also, why did you have to dress a naked woman?? Shock

There was some sort of emergency in thecward (away from us) and literally all the staff were rushing about to it. The woman next to me managed to somehow wriggle out of the hospital gown she was wearing and she had just had surgery on her leg and couldn't move to get it back on!. I didn't really mind but tbh it just made my stay a bit more annoying

Yes there is medication for shingles

Surely I can't be unlucky enough to get quinsy and shingles in two weeks. It's getting beyond a joke now. I don't know if I would prefer it to be shingles or flu.... I'm still hoping it's anxiety

You need to go to the GP asap, if it is shingles they can give you medication
to help, and it also stops you getting it again, but it does have to be taken soon. I hope you are feeling better soon.x

You need to get yourself investigated as to why you are so prone to exacerbation of common illnesses. Have you had full blood works etc?

Report

Has the quinsy definitely gone. I had it twice and was treated in hospital but even after i never really felt well. They eventually took my tonsils out and found another that they hadn't know was there! Once that was found and treated I was fine again. Hope you get sorted Flowers

Sounds like shingles to me too. Utterly horrid. See your GP! Hope you're much better soon.

Yep, I had shingles a while ago and it felt like my skin should be inflamed or blistered but there was nothing visible. Dr gave me anti viral medication and it knocked it on the head in no time. It's not uncommon for shingles to flare up if you're run down so would make sense that's what it is, hope you're fully well soon OP Flowers

There is apparently an antiviral shot you can get for shingles but, if it turns out to be that, you need to be it ASAP. So go in as soon as it opens!

Yes get yourself seen, asap. Sounds like shingles.

As for your anxiety and thinking it may be that making you feel like you have a fever, whilst your temp is actually OK, have you invested in a thermometer? We got one of those In ear ones and it's great for knowing if its just feeling warm, or feeling feverish and for reassurance too. :)

Sadly shingles seems to crop up when resistance has been lowered by persistent illness (or in my case grief after a death.) One sided burning skin does sound like that is starting.

Yes see Dr ASAP if you suspect shingles, if you leave it too long without medication it can take much much longer to heal iirc. My dad had it for months and was pissed off because he'd been turned away without meds on a Friday, Monday was bank holiday so couldn't get seen again until Tuesday.

Get to your GP ASAP and get a diagnosis. If it's shingles the antiviral work best if you catch it early and unfortunately it can be very painful and debilitating.

Has anyone investigated your immune system or for any underlying cause of the infections?

Have you had your tonsils out? A friend had hers out as a child but still had tonsillitis-like illnesses, and frequent throat infections/pretty much everything you've listed, including quinsy. This has gone on her entire life.
She finally saw a fantastic ENT specialist this summer, who discovered via scans that she had a small amount of tonsular tissue in a 'pocket' in her throat. This pocket is the cause of all her infections.

Just mentioning in case it could help - sounds to me like you need an ENT referral.

Op, I've had shingles and was too late to be able to take any medication. The pharmacist diagnosed it and the doc subsequently just said rest and get better soon!

It wasn't that bad. Painful rash, yes, but once that cleared I was left with a little pain in the area of the rash but nothing terrible or debilitating. It doesn't affect everyone badly and will clear on its own, in time. But get to the docs because if you're in time, you'll get medication to help.

Anxiety is bloody horrible, to me its one of the worse illness's you can have, because it makes you question everything. If your Doctor knows you suffer from anxiety, go in and see him/her, because they would rather put you at ease and have you feeling relaxed than worrying that you're over-imagining. I completely understand where you are coming from, you question everything when you have anxiety, and I am so sorry you suffer from this too. Hope its not shingles, had that when I was 5 and its not nice, but they can treat you quickly hun. xxxxxxx

YES GO TO THE GP ASAP.

If she has told to come in as soon as yOu have the slightest sniffle, there is a reason for it. She wouldn't do that if she didn't think anything can become very serious with you.
That include skin issues and skin being painful.

TBH, even if you are anxious, it's not going to make your skin painful. And painful skin isn't normal.
So please GO!

I have had various tests at the hospital when I have been in. I had an MRI when I had pneumonia that showed some cloudy bits in my lungs which was invisible on an X-ray because it was hidden behind my heart or something . I had blood tests in hopsital they just always say that I have "very high infection markers" I think something crp? I don't know.

Other than finding out why I am ill that particular time no one has ever suggested any underlying cause - they just give me antibiotics in my little drip and send me home once it's done!
