Tesco - what would you expect from this?

Ordered ds his birthday gift a month ago, we where told the the release date was Friday 4th Nov, we called MIL while in the store, to ask if she was available for it to be delivered to her property, she's said she had annual leave to use and would book the day off to wait for it to come, Friday 4th, it didn't arrive.

SIL waited in all day today incase it was being delivered today as we could not get through to Tesco on the phone and the nearest Tesco to us is 40 mins drive away, so couldn't just pop in either.

I've called 20 mins ago and we have been told the incorrect release date, 8 days after ds's birthday... angry our receipt and everything says 4th Nov...

I've told them I will have to speak to dh, however as ds wants this gift, I cannot see us being able to cancel it, and Tesco also cannot help as the product doesn't get released until after ds birthday.

However I feel as if MIL has wasted an annual leave day and SIL a days time also, and also we can't give ds his gift until after his birthday.

I've also looked at the alternative options however they have them out of stock and I could have bought them while in the store the day we originally went, however we were sold this product due to ds interests.

What would you do, would you expect a good will guesture, or would you just say it was one of those things?

Is it a Tesco owned product?

If not maybe the original release date was4th and the product owners changed the date after you bought it - outside of tesco remit.

Get something else for birthday and get this for Christmas.

dementedpixie Mon 07-Nov-16 22:14:30

What sort of present is it? Maybe the original release date got put back through no fault of tesco. That's life sometimes

Queenbean Mon 07-Nov-16 22:15:12

The release date may have changed which is outside of tesco's control

I cant ever really imagine someone taking annual leave just to accept a parcel, couldn't you have had it delivered to work instead? I think YABU to expect compensation or anything for that situation

MsJamieFraser Mon 07-Nov-16 22:19:35

Not Tesco own brand, release date always been the 18th apparently, we were just told the incorrect date by the member of staff.

No I couldnt get it delivered to my work, as my schedule was full with external meetings, hence why we called MIL.

MumOnTheRunCatchingUp Mon 07-Nov-16 22:21:50

It's just one of those things!

AnchorDownDeepBreath Mon 07-Nov-16 22:24:30

It happens, unfortunately, and whilst Tesco might knock a tenner off the item if you complain, they are unlikely to compensate your MiL or SIL for the days. It'd set a precedent that they wouldn't want to fulfill, lots of people must have this problem each year.

TheFairyCaravan Mon 07-Nov-16 22:26:14

Why does everyone seem to expect a "goodwill gesture" nowadays?

It's just one of those things. YABU

YoScience Mon 07-Nov-16 22:27:31

Did you get a delivery/despatch notification or anything with the expected delivery date on?

Agree that you might get a £10 Tesco voucher as a gesture of goodwill, it nothing more I wouldn't think.

Meadows76 Mon 07-Nov-16 22:28:21

Yeah. Sue them for compensation confused

MsJamieFraser Mon 07-Nov-16 22:33:11

Meadows maybe you would seek compensation, however I would not, nor have I suggested other wise!

The release date is also proving a nightmare, both me and dh are away with work, MIL not available either confused

Queenbean Mon 07-Nov-16 22:36:19

Don't you have receptionists at work who sign for parcels?

Smella123 Mon 07-Nov-16 22:37:21

Could it not be left with a neighbour or at your sorting office?

Queenbean Mon 07-Nov-16 22:37:34

Actually what is the gift? Maybe so many of us are struggling with this issue because I can't understand why you need to get it on an exact date?

MaddyHatter Mon 07-Nov-16 22:41:20

why did you not ask for it to be delivered to the store so you can pick it up when you're available?

Fevertree Mon 07-Nov-16 22:43:44

It's a birthday present which is why op needs it on a set day and the nearest tesco is a 40 min drive away so it's not convenient to pick it up

Queenbean Mon 07-Nov-16 22:45:58

She needs it FOR a set day, I don't understand why she needs to receive it on a set day

Confusednotcom Mon 07-Nov-16 22:46:50

Surely a 1.5hr round trip on a weekend is better than taking a day off. Or cancel and Amazon it.

MsJamieFraser Mon 07-Nov-16 22:48:48

Queen the item doesn't get released until the 18th, we ore ordered it (as its a popular item and limited edition) for his birthday, however he now won't be getting it for his birthday.

I can't leave it with reception either.

Sorting office yes, however would be difficult to get as we work the same hours as our local PO, and it's also 30 mins drive away.

Neighbour yes, but it also means asking a neighbour to wait in all day, so reluctant to do this, only other options we have is asking for it to be delivered to the 24 hour Tesco, not that far from smalller Tesco and collect it of the weekend of the release date.

NapQueen Mon 07-Nov-16 22:50:24

Can't you just get it off amazon and delivered to a click and collect place?

Why tesco?

StarryIllusion Mon 07-Nov-16 22:51:01

If it said the 4th on your receipt then that is the information the staff were working from at the time. They have been misinformed as much as you have and not really anything they can do about it. Just have it delivered to a neighbour or don't worry about it, they will take it to the sorting office and you'll have a fortnight to collect it. Give it to him for Christmas and get him something else for his birthday. This is just one of those things and that's life.

cdtaylornats Mon 07-Nov-16 22:54:38

Release dates for books, films and games change all the time. I've had books that were nearly a year late - some excuse on the authors website claiming he had to sleep.

Queenbean Mon 07-Nov-16 22:55:45

Very confused about this. What is the item? Why does it need to be ordered with Tesco and not amazon and do click and collect? Why can't reception at work sign for it?

PinkiePiesCupcakes Mon 07-Nov-16 22:57:10

Why re you being cagey about the item?
It doesn't matter what it is, I just find it odd that you haven't replied to people asking?

PinkiePiesCupcakes Mon 07-Nov-16 22:58:34

Only thing I can think of being released that day are Pokemon 3DS games?
