Aibu to spend this money on a new washing machine?

It's about 500 pounds ish . Expensive I know but hopeful a machine that will last more years than all our previous ones!
How much is yours? Any brand that never disappoints you?? How long should a washing machine last? Enlighten me please, thanks!

My Miele is still going strong after 15 years, it's fab.

If I couldn't afford that again I'd get a Bosch I think as I have a Bosch oven and it's fab so would hope the quality would be the same.

Is it a Miele? I might buy Miele next time if I can get one for £500 ish but I wouldn't pay more than that.

We've had 2 washing machines in 21 years of home ownership. The first was a £400 ish mid range brand that I cannot remember (going back 20 years when appliances cost more than they do now) that we left in our first house still working but at 10 years old thought it wouldn't survive the move and I wanted a bigger drum and a handwash programme.

We've been in our current house for 11 years and have a £250 Zanussi that's still going strong.

We have soft water which I think is kinder to washing machines and have been fortunate - lots of people seem to need new machines every 3/4 years but they probably do more washing than us - we have no DCs and probably do about 3 full loads a week.

We paid about £200 for our indesit one, it's 10 years old now and we're just starting to think of replacing it, I'd by another of the same brand as its lasted so well including washing all daughters cloth nappies

I love my Hoover washing machine cost £350 with a 10kg drum. Previous machine lasted 5 years and was a Zanussi. We tend to wear them out as I can do 3 loads a day 7 days a week with all the various school and sports uniforms. Our laundry basket is like the never ending porridge pot

I am onto my second Siemens washer. First one lasted 10 years.

I don't think £500 is that expensive for a washing machine - I'd class it as top of the mid- price range. Expensive would be £800 plus and I have spent that in the past.
Washing machines only seem to last 2/3 years on average in our house although a previous Miele did last almost 5 yrs but it cost £900! Currently got a cheap Zanussi - think it was £280 ish but I don't like it and am going back to a Miele when it breaks.
I do do 3/4 loads per day and more on weekends as I prefer everything to be clean and fresh.

I had a Miele. Got it just before DC1 was born and was happy to pay the price because I knew so very many people with Mieles that had lasted at least 15 years, several making it to 20. Seemed like a solid plan.

Was a very bad investment indeed and TBH I'm still a bit cross about it. Worked brilliantly for almost 7 years and that was that. The 'computer' gave up the ghost and although there was nothing at all wrong with the mechanical parts the cost of repair was not much short of the original cost of the machine. End of.

so, I sold it for parts. The chap who collected said that the newer Mieles really aren't anything like as good as the oldies we've all heard about. Rot set in about 10 years ago he reckoned.

Oh. After I'd sobbed at the utterly lovely Miele repair woman who came out she recommended Beko as being exceptionally good quality for the price. I got a Beko but it's only 2 and although it's been fab I can't comment as to the longevity.

We've had 4 years out of a Siemens washer dryer and have just forked out £550 for a John Lewis branded dryer, as we needed more drying power to keep up with it all. Chose the jl one as it was cheaper than the equivalent aeg that it's a rehashed version of and came with a 3 year warranty which is essential with aeg goods, these days (now part of zanussi-electrolux and standards have slipped in the past decade, as a result)

We have a Hotpoint Aquarius. It's our second one in that range- first one lasted about 8 years, this one was inherited from my great aunt and is about 4 years old. I have had no problems. In fact the older one was only not repaired when it went because my aunt's was waiting ready to be plumbed in.

£1700 Miele

Love it. Bought it due to my son's eczema as it has an allergy wash function.

However I've found other features really love - waterproofing, silk wash, steam function and integrated detergent canisters.

I've got a AEG washer/dryer that was approximately £600~. We've used it almost every day for 3 years and it hasn't died yet.

I have a Miele. It's 12 years old thus year. We are a family of 6 and I do at least two loads a day including chef whites. Still going strong

Wow, I've clearly been lucky, I've never had a washing machine last less than 6 years and I'm saying 6 years because we moved house and left them behind.

I've got a six year old Bosch I'm very happy with.

Had a Bosch (usually a brand with a good reputation) but broke down several times and died after about 5 years.

Spent almost £600 on an LG machine which were fairly new at the time. It's very quiet and hasn't put a foot wrong in almost 6 years.

I've got a Bosch. £600, it's been going strong for 7 years, and that includes 3 house moves and the first 4 years of the kids' lives so it's been tested to destruction.
I definitely think £500 is OK for a washing machine - it's one of those things that if it breaks, it's a total nightmare.

We have a Samsung one that was about £500 and the matching heat pump dryer and I love them both

Before that we had a hotpoint washing machine and it lasted all of 14 months before completely breaking beyond repair!

We do a LOT of washing (disabled ds etc) - usually 3 loads a day and the Samsung machine copes brilliantly.

We got ours from ao on interest free credit which has made it even easier cost wise.

We're in the same boat. Our Miele has served us well for 15 years. We spent £250 a few months ago for repair and now there's another problem. Call out and potential extra time for repair + part could reach £300. So we have to let this one go.
Looking to get cheapest best value as possible. On a very low budget at the moment. £500 should give you some good choices.

I have done well with Bosch normally.

My last one lasted 14 years, having cost £350. I replaced it only last week with another new Bosch for the same price. I now have my fingers crossed that this one does just as well as that one did.

John lewis usually have 5 yr warranty on lots of machines

I had a candy machine that lasted over 10 years then got a newer one that lasted 3 till we moved house with a machine included. I'm due to buy appliances again and will try to get a candy washer.
