AIBU?

To be hacked off that I have been judged for shopping in m&s?

After finishing a night shift this morning popped into M&S for some shopping for me and DP...parking was near, I couldn't be arsed to fight my way around Asda, Sainsbury's etc... I came out with about 4 bags and quite a few of their 3 for £10 offers on food and 3 for £7 along with some fruit etc.. for my packed lunches. I work hard for my money and am not afraid to grab a bargain in other supermarkets it was just that I wanted the quickness of this store and fancied treating myself too. I came out with my shopping and bumped into friends daughter ..she looks at my shopping bags and has a sarcastic grin on her face saying 'oh marks' I say yes I couldn't be arsed to go to Asdas etc just finished work wanna get home...well she said if that was me I'd walk to Asda's to save myself ALL that money hitching judge pants to under chin AIBU to think that a friends DD (aged 30) who will only wear Dune shoes and who's DH and her both have good jobs should not piss me off big time have to judge where I chose to shop?? Angry

Don't sweat it. I shop in M&S a lot. I like the quality of the food and find I actually spend less there (not as much extraneous stuff to put in the trolley) and throw away less too.

It's your hard earned money you are spending. Who cares what your friends DD thinks?

Should've told her to keep her opinions to herself and save herself ALL that oxygen.

M&S and ASDA are both equally grim though...

I don't think people tend to care about where other people shop do they?

She was probably teasing you.

Oooo, but the shortbread!

In the help yourself and put it in a bag bakery baskets bit they do have really lovely choc chip shortbread.

Delicious.

I hate Asda btw. The light are always too bright and it's always crowded. I always end up in tears or having a panic attack if I try to go there.

This thread is too funny

Sorry, I can't take it seriously enough to believe you actually care Grin

But well done for working hard for your money.

You should spend it as you wish but then again, you absolutely know that...

Last time I went to ASDA they were playing dodgy music and people kept coughing near me.

And they refused to sell me Django Unchained as I had no ID but I am clearly in my mid-thirties.

You're judging yourself. That's why you're justifying it with mentioning the parking and the offers and how you couldn't be arsed to walk to Asda.

If you really didn't care that you'd been caught shopping there you'd have said 'fuck yeah I spend my money on champagne and Percy pigs and I don't see why I have to justify it to anyone'

I think you are WAY over thinking this OP.

Why do you care, or feel you need to justify yourself , you really don't hun

Oh God, ignore. Really, why does it matter where you shop?! To me, that whole exchange sounds like she was just teasing in a "oo, Marks" way.
Nobody really cares where you shop. Way overthinking.

Just ignore her, she sounds a bit jealous IMO.

Your money, your decision how to spend it.

p.s. I would not be bothered whether you had bought the M&S food deals or champagne and caviar :)

I think you are overtired, OP.

There is no way she actually gives a shit. Let it go.

Also, I love the way everyone on mumsnet 'works hard for their money'. As opposed to the rest of us, who get paid for titting about, presumably.

Well as a sahm who is currently bf. Maybe I get "money" for titting about. 😉

No sorry I didn't mean it to come over as I work hard for my money sort of post I have had to struggle as a SAH Carer for my DD so thankfully am now in a position to be able to work full time ( for the first time in many years) so maybe that was the reason why I took Umbrage to her snide comments ...maybe I have been doing quite a lot of night work lately and just felt a bit more tired and fatigued than usual.

Seriously you shouldn't need to ask. Why do you care what anyone else thinks.

Yum, M&S. It is pricey and tasty. You go ahead enjoy your well earned grub safe in the knowledge that judgey-pants doesn't have whichever delicious meal components you picked up (and on offer too). Yum.

She doesn't give a shit where her mum's friend shops. She saw you and thought "crap, mum's friend, quick, a conversation topic, can't think, can't think, oh I know- ooo Marks!"

I've never been to Asda. I have never assumed this to be an aspersion on my character before. Don't worry about it!

puglife15 · 06/11/2016 03:16

I just can't imagine an actual person stewing on this so much that having finished their shift this morning they post about it more than 12 hours later because it's still bothering them.

OP it sounds like this is something you feel insecure about for some reason. Don't. Money's for spending on veggie Percy's and walnut whips , right?

Asda is grim I would judge for shopping there over Aldi/ Lidl or Morrisons.
Might be just my local asda but most of the customers look like they wouldn't be out of place on Jeremy Kyle.
