AIBU?

To ask what myhermes are supposed to do?

I ordered DC2's Christmas present from eBay (no choice, they don't make this particular piece of plastic tat anymore) and the seller used Hermes.

The parcel was posted a week ago so I've checked the tracking today and apparently it was delivered to "a secure location" on Wednesday afternoon while I was picking the dc up from school. No card was left.

According to Hermes, the parcel was left by my back door. How is that a secure location? It's a shared yard, accessible to anybody.

So is that it? I've lost my money and DC2's Christmas present? Hermes don't leave cards or leave parcels with a neighbour or somewhere safe?

They put mine underneath the welcome mat at the front door. Anyone could have walked past and seen it. Luckily I came home. Good luck

John Lewis use myhermes, they email me to say my laptop was delivered to a secure location in my outbuilding, aka recycling bin.

Normally we've had cards through the door when myhermes has missed us.

Locations for missed parcels have included with a neighbour (fine), thrown over the gate into the side alley (ok if it's not breakable), under green recycling box next to door (not particularly secure but could be worse), and in the recycling wheelie bin on bin day (no, myhermes, never a good idea, wtf were you thinking?).

My work use Hermes couriers and they are supposed to leave a calling card. If you didn't specify to leave the parcel in a safe place and weren't advised that you may be liable if it gets lost or damaged then Hermes will reimburse the seller, they should be the ones to reimburse you. Hermes couriers are self employed and some of them just do not care at all apparently! Hope it gets resolved quickly for you.

So the absence of a card implies they haven't tried to deliver at all?

Presumably, I can't prove it and therefore I can just write off my money?

Bugger.

I had a parcel delivered the other day, according to Hermes it was signed for by the receptionist in the porch
I live in a flat... Neither porch or receptionist in sight..

They left it in front of the door

DP was at home at the time, they didn't even ring or knock.
Called him after I got an a delivery confirmation email, so it was safe at least..

You can still raise a case with eBay.

Shame for the seller - but if I were the seller I'd know it was for me to chase up the courier, not the buyer.

Which is one of the reasons I don't sell any more, tbh.

Might pay to contact myHermes. It might left with a neighnour. It had happened to me once it twice with no calling card and we eventually found it. A PITA mind.

I've just been outside in the dark to check the bin in case the parcel is in there. Sadly it isn't.

Is it from a private seller? I use Hermes to deliver parcels when I sell anything on eBay. Mainly clearing out stuff so a couple a week.

I have had four or five deliveries that haven't reached their destination including one where Hermes had the address it had been delivered to (a neighbour) but the neighbour was swearing blind they didn't have it.

In all cases Hermes gave me (the seller) a full refund which I then passed on to the buyer. Speak to the seller. It's up to them to resolve this with Hermes and if they don't then open an item not received dispute thing on eBay. Good luck.

NEVER buy from people using my hermes, this happens ALL the time. On Ebay seller will win any case because tracking says delivered, and seller discretion to chase up hermes or not, who won't talk to you because the seller is their client, not you.
So, i'm sorry to say the answer is almost certainly yes, you've lost your money and the present.

If you contact the seller they should be able to open a case with Hermes then they should either resend or refund once resolved. I have an etsy shop and use Hermes, opened a case twice and they were more than helpful.

I've contacted myhermes and they said it was left by the back door. I came home 20 minutes after it was supposed to have been left. No card, no parcel. This was Wednesday. I've seen the neighbours several times since then. We take parcels in for each other and drop them in asap.

I don't think they've actually tried to deliver.

If the tracking shows that the parcel was delivered (even if you don't have it) then you will lose an INR case. You might not even be able to open one if the seller has entered the tracking number already.

Your best bet is to contact the seller and persuade them to talk to MyHermes- MH won't tell you anything because you are not their customer and their contract is not with you. This does happen occasionally and the seller is best placed to find out more. I assume you've asked your neighbours if they took the parcel in for safekeeping?

I've contacted the seller. Sadly there's no reason they'll believe me though is there?

I really can't afford to buy again. Feckity feck. It's all dc wants.

Neighbours weren't home today but I've seen them several times since Wednesday. I'll double check but they'd say. We're on friendly, chatty, cup of tea and cake terms.

It's not really the sellers issue, you need to take this up with Hermes

Pursue them until they compensate you for your lost parcel, they can't just leave it wherever they want to and give you a 'hope you find it' attitude

There's noway I'd be writing my money off

Be tough with them op Smile

We had a delivery by them, no note but tracker saying parcel left in secure location. Like you, I went out in the pitch dark and pissing rain to find it by the back gate.

Thankfully it was well packaged as the box inside had shoes in and both box and shoes were fine despite being outside in the rain for hours.

Good luck op, hope you find it in the daylight.

I'd open item not received case with seller then if they win that I'd go via PayPal as with PayPal they have to prove delivery and as myhermes didnt get a signature I'm you may be in with a shot

I've sent over 3000 parcels with Hermes over the past 2 years. When it works (99.9% of the time in my experience) it's brill but when it comes to problems they are shit . They are supposed to make 3 attempts to deliver and you can nominate a safe place/neighbours. If you've contacted the seller and get nowhere escalate the case to eBay and PayPal. They tend to always back the buyer (even when they are lying, not saying you are in any way but they don't ask for any proof - voice of bitter experience)

AndNowItsSeven · 06/11/2016 00:10

Ebay will refund you and take the money from the seller as the parcel wasn't signed for. You need to open an eBay case.

It's not anywhere in our yard. I genuinely think they haven't delivered it.

How is the back doorstep in a shared yard on a busy road a secure location anyway? Silly wazzocks.

I will chase it but I'm not sure how right now. Hermes seem convinced "we left it on your doorstep" is an end to the matter.
