Indigestion or Heart attack?

...getting out of bed to source pain relief.

Got the most horrendous chest pain. Most likely indigestion I'm guessing Confused but no eaten anything dodgy, well not eaten anything in past 3 hours or so. Really can't be bothered getting up to try and find paracetamol and it's too painful to move anyway. It's not subsiding as I write this either. What can I do to test my theory? Cup of milk? Or is that for acid reflux not indigestion. No idea but it hurts like hell right in the centre of my chest. Otherwise healthy, young (ish), no real reason to think it's anything sinister. Shall I try to jump around? See if that shifts anything? Kill me or cure me?

YABU for misleading thread title. Have you any Gaviscon?

Not milk, it doesn't actually help reflux!

Gallstones, perhaps? Pain is incredibly bad I understand.

Gasviscon or something like Andrews salts. Milk as a last resort because it can make it worse (body makes more acid in response to the alkaline). Seriously though, if you're too uncomfortable to move you should call 111 at the very least.

I think if you truly believed you'd just suffered a heart attack you wouldn't be posting about it on MN.

Could it be gallstones? I had a violent attack a year ago, with no previous symptoms. Unbelievable pain (a close second to childbirth). Thought I was having a heart attack at first. The pain is usually slightly off centre but in the upper middle abdomen. Had my gallbladder out in June - no further problems!

I'd go with a large glass of milk, that usually works for me unless it's really bad then I have to use Gaviscon Yuck, which can feel like an evil way to have to cure indigestion and acid reflux.

Try sleeping propped up as well it's better for you if you sleep slightly elevated if you have indigestion or acid reflux

Ffs get the title changed!

Then gaviscon or teaspoon of bicarb in a glass of water

If it IS gallstones, you can take painkillers but they'll not do that much. It should go away in an hour or two. Dh said I looked like I'd aged 20 years by the time mine subsided Shock.

If I truelly believed I was having a heart attack, MN is exactly where I'd be. But I'd rather died than go to A&E with a suspected heart attack and need a burp instead. No gaviscon in, never had indigestion before. No idea why is hurts so much but lying here until I can at least remember for sure where I put the paracetamol as it's two floors away.

I would seek medical attention ASAP. Phone 111.

Aren't gallstones supposed to be down in your bladder. This is right in the middle of my boobs but under my ribs somewhere.

I had this the last few days, whipped to hospital with suspected blood clot on the lung

Turned out it was a nasty chest infection

Milk is really bad for it.
Get some ranitidine tomorrow if you can. And liquid gaviscon usually relieves it a bit but doesn't last long for me.

Posted too soon

It is utterly pointless to post here and get people to guess what it may or may not be

If you need medical attention seek that rather than just being an attention seeker

Wow pepperpot, who shit in your coffee?

It probably is indigestion, gaviscon or remies should hopefully do the trick. I get it really bad too, and sometimes something cold and fizzy that makes me burp seems to shift it a bit.

How does it feel? Is it like a pressure or weight, or is it relieved somewhat by drinking water/massage? Does the pain travel? Tbh I think you should at least call NHS direct to seek their advice.

So do you think you're actually having a heart attack or do you think you have indigestion? Either way paracetamol won't fix it.

And you should sleep on your left side, not your right.

My mum went to hospital a few years ago with a suspected heart attack. It turned out to be shingles! She said it was agony and she was convinced it was a HA. She is a midwife and not one for panicking at all so we were all preparing for the worst.

Front middle. Not tried a drink because that also involves moving it's like a dull achey feeling but painful. I'm trying to focus on not being sick right now.

Front middle was when I got a lot of my gall bladder pain. Your gall bladder is linked to your stomach, not your bladder.

Are you having cold sweats? Does the pain radiate into your upper left arm or jaw?

Report
AtSea1979 · 04/11/2016 23:32

I've tried patting my chest, it doesn't make the pain worse (or better). On left side, hope it helps
