To punch this man in the face?

Yes I probably am, I won't do it but imagining it is fun!

I was leaving my sons football training earlier, boys were running about in the almost empty staff car park, and new kids dad says to his son in his very posh voice "They can't have put much effort in at training if they have this much energy left".

NOT really a problem if he kept his voice down but the boys heard, as did I as I was right next to him! I personally find it disgusting to say negative things about other children, especially when said child is within earshot.

Yes I know not the biggest problem in the world! It's just RUDE!

Meh, was probably a joke. Maybe he was trying to break the ice if they're new. What has his accent got to do with anything?

Meh can't say it would have bothered me but then I've probably said much worse!

He was right though!

Would it have annoyed you so much if his voice had been " common"?

Disgusting? Seriously?

sounds like a joke or a comment to break the ice or something I think you are being totally OTT...

Report
Queenbean · 03/11/2016 21:24

Would it have been ok if he had a common voice instead?

I think you're massively overreacting

new kids dad says to his son in his very posh voice "They can't have put much effort in at training if they have this much energy left".

I take if his "posh voice" was in some way relevant to the situation?

Do "posh voices":

  • carry more
  • have more gravitas than a scruff voice?

I'd just assume he doesn't know many children if he thinks they don't have endless amount of energy.

Yes, all jovial small talk by posh people should be made illegal OP.

Punch him in the face FFS.

And it was football - hardly the best environment for your crusade against "negative" comments.

Yeah his voice irritated me, and the tone in which he said it wasn't joke like. Or I probably just didn't get it. I'm sure I'll get used to him in a few weeks.

I'm annoyed with him as his son slide tackled mine, causing my son to have bruising to his face and arms and he told his son well done! They're on the same bloody team! That's not good for team relations is it?!?!?

So added to that comment, which my son heard too, I'm annoyed and want to punch the man!

And yes his accent has nothing to do with anything

Oh fgs you're really dramatic and ridiculous. It's hardly a rude comment. You on the other hand sound like you have anger issues for wanting to punch him for that.

If his son is new, he was probably trying to start a conversation or break the ice. Probably his "posh" voice led you to interpret his words as sneery rather than joking. Why would he say something like this seriously to his son? It makes no sense.

If he really WAS posh surely his children would have been playing rugby instead?

Do you know I don't know many people with a posh voice, it's a novelty!!

Yes I'm being unreasonable!!! Bad day and that just topped it off for me.

You sound a bit daft tbh.

Like a pp said, if he was that posh his son would have obviously been playing rugby instead.

You're being ridiculous Hmm. You also can't moan that his son hurt yours, then 'imagine' punching him in the face. It was just a silly comment over a silly game. Get a grip.

It was just a random comment. You need to lighten up.

Ohh yes I'm also being over dramatic on an anon forum, letting off steam about someone who has annoyed me.

Better than being over dramatic in real life. I'll see him at the weekend and it'll be fine.

I wouldn't have taken that comment seriously at all, let alone wanted to punch him!
