To ask what you do with pesto?!

I'm new to pesto and I need to know what to do with it please!

I stir some red pesto through the filled pasta parcels, and just serve the green pesto on linguine with some extra toasted pine nuts.

I'm sure someone will be along with more inspiring idea however!

Put it on chicken.

Put it on cod loins and bake in the oven with olives and cherry tomatoes.

You'd be better off asking what you can't do with pesto! It goes with almost anything.

Fry off some finely chopped onions with diced bacon or mushrooms (or both).

Stir in generous tablespoon of pesto followed by heaped teaspoon of cream cheese & splash of milk to thin it slightly.

Stir in cooked pasta of your choice until thoroughly coated.

Pile on plate, sprinkle black pepper and drizzle of decent olive oil.

I love pesto (though it is one of those things where it is really worth spending an extra £ or two, as the really cheap stuff is nasty). As well as a pasta sauce we also use it in sandwiches (often with mozzarella and tomato) and either potatoes or peas dressed with pesto (mixed in with a tiny bit of extra oil) make brilliant side dishes.

Yes make a pasta sauce and just before adding the pasta or serving, stir one teaspoonful in for each person.

Add it to the top of cheese on toast or cheesy pitta pockets

Add it to the top of pizzas or flatbreads

It is a pasta sauce, just use a spoonful and mix it in. You can also use it to flavour sauces, salads and dressings.
I like it mixed with mayo in sandwiches and on salads and spuds.
You can use a spoonful in mashed potatoes as well.

It is a pasta sauce. Mixed into spaghetti, with some parmesan on top, and served with cherry tomatoes, it is all the pasta sauce you need.

It is also good on fish.

You can just mix it straight from the jar into drained pasta, grate a bit of parmesan over it, and eat it like that. I also stir it into couscous; or mix it with extra-virgin olive oil and drizzle over fish, or filled pasta or steamed or roasted vegetables. Or put a teaspoon into salad dressings. My son when he was small would eat anything as long as it had pesto on it; we're through that stage now, but he still loves it so we use it a lot.

Stir it through pasta, it's more of a coating than a sauce so don't use too much! I add a tin of mackerel and sweetcorn to make it more interesting! Personally I'm sick of the sight of the stuff but my DC's age 3 and 6 adore it.

Just Roll puff pastry, cut into squares, dollop of pesto, chicken, cheeses, oven for 12m. Lovely

Spread on a square of puff pastry, add basil leaves, tomatoe and mozzarella and cook in the oven. Delicious starter or lunch with a side salad.

Lovely with Parmesan shavings on cauliflower.
Most shop-bought Pestos are rank though.....

Some penne with a couple of teaspoons of pesto stirred through is on of DDs school lunchbox choices at the moment, useful if we're out of bread she'll contemplate eating. Also a teaspoonful in a cheese panini is nice.

Because we only use it a teaspoonful or two at a time, after opening a new jar the remainder gets frozen in an ice cube tray. A cube defrosts very quickly in microwwave.

i love the aldi red pesto, i put a big spoonful in with my bolognase, and i also use it in with the mince for my cottage pie, its adds a lovely flavour.

I use it in salmon en croute. Ready roll pastry, salmon, green pesto, spinach, egg wash. Quick and easy but nice dinner.
