To be completely confused about car seats

I need a new car seat for 7 month old ds. Was all set to buy the nuna rebl but I see now it's not safe at all! Can anyone recommend a different one?

We have a BeSafe iZi Modular. It's extended rear facing but doesn't swivel. I emailed Securatot for advice before purchasing.

Are you really sure you need anew car seat for a seven month old. Has yours been damaged. If not, it's highly unlikely they've grown out if it.

At 7 months you're best having an extended rear facing seat to get your money's worth. Check out the in car safety centre website as they only stock the safest seats.

We have the joie stages and its great. ERF for up to 4 years if you want (it's safer) and then can be turned around until approx 7 years.

Hi littlebear, ds is quite long and his head is just over the top of his infant seat!! Already!! I was in mothercare last week and they were raving about the nuna rebl so I don't want to ask them again!! I thought it was perfect as it's suitable from birth apparently! I just want the safest one there is!

My DS is almost 8 months and we had a look at them in Mothercare yesterday, he's not grown out of his group 0 one yet but he will fairly soon, he's a very long baby. I am as confused as you. Does anyone have the graco or joie ones that go all the way up to 11? They look great but are they as safe? I'd like DS to rear face for a bit longer really.

I was also surprised by how few isofix seats there were in Mothercare! Most seemed to need fitting with a seatbelt which doesn't seem as safe. Or the need for another base - we have the maxicosi bases at the moment but for the next seat we need one that can easily be swapped between two cars.

We currently have the nuna rebl, spent months researching the best one and decided this was safest and did everything I wanted it to. The first one we had broke after 3 months( wouldn't lock in to any recline position so just slid freely up and down) had it exchanged to now find it has failed the safety test in Germany. Have now spent the last few days researching again and have decided on the recaro zero 1. Does everything the rebl does, suitable from birth, and has passed the German ADAC test.
Just hoping we have made the right decision this time after such an epic fail last time!

Have you removed any newborn insert?!
Maxi cosi 2 way pearl is perfect for tall children. You don't have to move it forward facing at all so they can stay erf until age 4 or 18kg. Has an extendable head rest so lasts ages. Tall dd was nearly at the top of the cybex Sirona at 13 months(!)

Even if you don't agree with erf, babies shouldn't be forward facing until at least 15 months.

Thanks for that!! I want him rear facing as long as possible, newborn insert removed about 6 weeks ago, (neck support)

This may sounds like a silly question but have you taken the newborn cushion out? The foam triangle piece that sits under the bum? Also have you checked the instructions because I'm sure it was the top of the ears hat had to be above the seat before it was too small not the top of the head with my infant seats anyhow.

Hi drama, yep the cushion for under his bum is gone since he was about 8 weeks old, neck support gone now too, I'll check that before I move him, thank you!

We bought 2 car seats, one for both cars. DH has the Joie I-anchor and I have the maci cosi axissfix - both of which offer extended rearward facing. The maxi cosi has been great because it swivels and so much easier while I was pregnant, however DS is on 98th centile and has been forward facing since 18 months. Both the maxi cosi and Joie are meant to last until 4 years but DS will need new seats by next summer (although DD will prob need DS's current ones by then anyway so it's not really a problem for us).

Hi donut, it's so annoying isn't it! We almost bout the rebl last weekend but we decided to wait thank god. I wanted the maxi cosi axiss fix but it's not compatible with our car apparently

We moved ds into a nuna rebl 2 weeks ago and then into a cybex sirona (our second choice) this week. Don't be to hard on Mothercare staff as they can only advise with the facts they have. I did alot of research in to car seats and the rebl was my top choice. Obviously if you buy a ne. Car seat that hasn't been through so many test this will always be a risk.

We are very happy with the sirona but the straps are harder to get secure on ds and the fact the seat needs to be upright to swivel is annoying.

It really is annoying, you research to make sure you are keeping lol as safe as possible and then find out it was all pointless as a cheaper car seat would have kept them more secure and safe in the event of a front impact crash. I called the in car safety century and they also agreed with what I'd found online about the recaro zero 1 being the safest equivalent to the nuna. The 360 rotation really does make life so much simpler, it's isize same as the nuna and also isofix which was a must for us. Whichever seat we get TBH I will always be worrying if something like this will come to light again.

Sorry to jump on your thread OP but does anyone know a good seat for sicky children? We have a BeSafe izi but although the covers come off they are a right pain so I want one that's really easy to get on and off.

Depending who we put in the besafe the seat is either for a 10 m or 2 y old; want it to be rear facing.

Also OP how much room do you havd in your car? We've got a decent sized car (crv) but are quite tall so have the seats back a bit and a lot of rear facing seats didn't fit.

Newmum my bf has a maxi cosi I think 2 way pearl and her daughter is a mucky pup, covers come off really easily for machine washing!! We have plenty of space in the back of the car, his seat is behind passenger seat and when Dh is with us he always drives , he's very tall and I'm 5"1 so I don't need much leg room
