I was reading and contributing to the post about the new husband whose wife has found his disgusting stag videos. I read contribution after contribution saying 'if this is real', 'troll', etc. And one particularly asshole post which simply said 'reported' like the poster was some sort of stepford wife keeping her community in check. None of us actually know whether it was real because, well, this is the internet. But who gives anyone the right to assume something isn't? Just because you, soneone you know, or in this case, your husband hasn't done (or been caught doing) it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. I know someone who this almost exact thing happened to her.

So stop the troll hunting! And get a life.

And shame on MN for deleting within 5 mins of report in favour of the reporter.

Laiste Sat 29-Oct-16 17:29:09

What was the deletion message? I think they only delete when they know it's dodgy.

It's MN rules not to troll hunt, so i agree with you there.

Sirzy Sat 29-Oct-16 17:30:34

For MN to delete a thread for "troll" reasons they normally have pretty good reason to believe it isn't true.

Well, it was a troll so I think you've lost your argument a bit there.....

MrsTerryPratchett Sat 29-Oct-16 17:31:03

They checked. I'm willing to bet a million pounds that it was a PBP for it to happen that quick. And MNHQ were VERY sure given that deletion message.

WhisperingLoudly Sat 29-Oct-16 17:31:43

Some are so obviously trolls there is nothing else to say. Seems MN were pretty certain too grin

ChicRock Sat 29-Oct-16 17:31:50

Well going off the deletion message from MNHQ it was definitely a troll.

I reported.
It was pretty obviously bollocks, to be fair.

But I agree - I didn't call troll on the thread, just sent an 'ahem...' message to MN.

noblegiraffe Sat 29-Oct-16 17:32:47

Loads of shit gets posted on here that isn't true, you'll get better at spotting it once you're here a while.

Arfarfanarf Sat 29-Oct-16 17:32:48

They dont actually delete because it's been reported.

We are told to report (troll hunting on thread is not supposed to happen)

But you are wrong if you think the the thread went 'because it was reported'

That isnt what happens.

A thread gets reported.

Mnhq look into it and if they can see something amiss - a previously banned poster for example - they delete the thread.

They make their own determination based on what they can see behind the scenes, not on the say so of a report

ChicRock Sat 29-Oct-16 17:33:10

I think about 70% of threads are troll these days.

Change your name to something i can recognise you by and i'all engage with your thread.

bloodymaria Sat 29-Oct-16 17:35:37

But it was a troll!

user1471524661 Sat 29-Oct-16 17:35:49

No, not my post. But I just really felt for her as my friend went through pretty much exactly what was described, but found put over 10 years later when her husband's friend let slip and he had to admit. She stayed because so much time had passed. But she went through hell for months because of it.

So, how does MN know it was definitely a troll? First time posters / weird usernames is not a definitive answer. I am genuinely interested in knowing.

GiddyOnZackHunt Sat 29-Oct-16 17:36:14

You do seem to be over invested yourself actually...

PigletWasPoohsFriend Sat 29-Oct-16 17:36:20

As this is a TAAT, which is also against MNHQ rules, this will probably go to....

Misstress, I would if I knew how. And yes, I am new to MN.

Guavaf1sh Sat 29-Oct-16 17:37:29

Sirzy- troll posted a ludicrously far fetched story of sexual shenanigans on a stag do then the thread got deleted so she set a new one up which is this one

AVirginLitTheCandle Sat 29-Oct-16 17:38:06

So, how does MN know it was definitely a troll?

If it was a PBP who has already been banned about 50 times for posting over the top outlandish stories then that's a pretty good indicator that the thread was BS.

GiddyOnZackHunt Sat 29-Oct-16 17:38:35

Yes. Why don't MNHQ publish a How we spot a troll guide? That couldn't possibly help a troll to avoid being spotted...
