Is this true? I buy 95% of my clothes from next and my son has always laughed saying it's a granny shop. I always thought it was quite trendy but then my trendy radar has always malfunctioned 😄 Anyway at work yesterday everyone was saying how they can't understand the appeal of Next and I noticed on a thread on here just now, hardly

AIBU to predominantly shop at Next at 35 years old?

Tliev Wed 26-Oct-16 07:37:20

That should ready hardly anyone on here said they shopped at Next

I buy a lot from Next but I think you just need to be careful. There are some absolute gems hidden among a lot of dross. I have recently bought some gorgeous leopard ankle boots and red zip Skinny jeans and a monochrome dogtooth jumper. I think they look good (I'm mid 30's) but there is equally an awful lot of terrible terrible stuff.

I have noticed when I went in 6 months ago, clothes old fashioned, uninspiring and expensive. Nice house wears and accessories through.

ChristmasEvePJs Wed 26-Oct-16 07:39:25

I find it a complete hit or a miss tbh. I seem to get less and less from there now.

Cakescakescakes Wed 26-Oct-16 07:39:55

I like it because the next day delivery is amazing and they are great at returns etc. I also buy lots there for the kids so often throw a few thing for me into the order too. If other stores stepped up their online offering then I'm sure Next would loose some business.

How old is your son? I'm guessing he probably counts anyone over 30 as 'grannies'! I'm 38 and I've shopped there for years..... I bought my first work suits from Next at 21 and still buy work clothes there now and jeans. I mostly buy baby and kids clothes now mind you. Oh and furniture... we kitted out a lot of our new house in Next last year. Love the place!!

elodie2000 Wed 26-Oct-16 07:40:13

I always think of Next as being too young for me... blush.

PikachuSayBoo Wed 26-Oct-16 07:40:15

I wouldn't say it was trendy. I get some basics from there and gym kit. Their leggings are good quality. If I worked in an office I guess I might get some work clothes there. But I think the level of being "on trend" has nose dived big time in Next over the last few years.

elodie2000 Wed 26-Oct-16 07:40:42

I'm in my 40s BTW.

Sirzy Wed 26-Oct-16 07:41:41

There jeans are the only ones which fit me properly.

I also like them for tops simply because of the ease of finding my size which isn't available in a lot of high street stores

Isawthepigsfly Wed 26-Oct-16 07:41:48

I shop in next. I'm 27 and quite fashionable (I like to think). It can be a hit or a miss with me and I avoid the sales as it's all the rubbish that gets wheeled out usually.

Isawthepigsfly Wed 26-Oct-16 07:43:04

I should maybe also say that I do it online. There seems to be a different range online from in store.

Sugarlightly Wed 26-Oct-16 07:43:39

There is an awful lot of just ... crap in Next. I buy some work dresses in there but that's it. DP likes men's section, which is way more stylish than the women's. Home section is also lovely.

londonrach Wed 26-Oct-16 07:43:59

Next is great for baby clothes. Ive not bought anything there for years...the pretend half price sale put me off. Had an ex bf who used to work there and said clothes were bought in for sale with a few from that year.

Frouby Wed 26-Oct-16 07:44:00

I like Next. Am 39 though so more grannyfied than you!

I like their jeans, harem trousers and vest tops in the longer length. Basics like long sleeved the shirts and tops for 'knocking around in'. I bought a sparkly going out top the other week too.

I also like the holiday stuff they have in over summer. And ds (almost 3) has mostly next clothes. They wash and wear very well.

AnnetteKertan Wed 26-Oct-16 07:45:43

It's not trendy but it's the only place I buy leggings from as they fit me, are cheap and the knees don't go baggy after two washes. Otherwise I don't find it that inspiring.

I love the children's clothes though. I rarely buy dd brand new clothes but when I do it tends to be from Next.

BikeRunSki Wed 26-Oct-16 07:47:10

I find it very hit and miss, although I get a lot of children's stuff there. They are the only place I can get DS school trousers that don't go through at the knees before hold grows out of them.

I often like the look of their jeans, but can never get them over my calfs!

I agree that the order online/delivery to store the next day is their strongest point. Their "labels" range is quite good - can sometimes find items sold out elsewhere.

Fairylea Wed 26-Oct-16 07:48:33

It's a huge store especially online so I think it can be as trendy as you make it to be honest. My 13 year old is super fashionable (fave shops are new look and top shop) and she still likes some of the stuff in Next, particularly shoes and jeans. I'm 36 and love Next. Always have. I find their clothes fit me better than anywhere else and I love the reliable next day delivery if you order by 12 midnight.

conkerpods Wed 26-Oct-16 07:49:06

I think their jeans are great.

ShebaShimmyShake Wed 26-Oct-16 07:49:16

I used to love it but it's shit now. And I've never known such a complicated and irritating online shopping experience. Why is it so fucking hard just topay with a fucking card rather than charge it to an account and go back and pay again ffs? And why do they send you a fucking brick of a catalogue that you don't want and then fucking CHARGE you for it?

Next has had its day and now it can piss off.

eurochick Wed 26-Oct-16 07:49:31

There are occasional gems but most of the offering is badly cut and in nasty fabrics. I do like the kids stuff and homewares though.

bonzo77 Wed 26-Oct-16 07:51:26

Our local store is quite small. Hate it. Over crowded. Ugly clothes, horrible fabrics, usually nothing in the sizes I need. Over priced. DH likes their trousers though for work.

GinIsIn Wed 26-Oct-16 07:51:55

Umm.... Their stuff is ok, some of it. But they have a habit of ruining things by overdoing it - perfectly nice t shirt but then covering it with weird appliqué. Decent jumper then adding false shirt cuffs and collar etc. I don't think their stuff is hideous or granny, but it's also never been trendy.

80sMum Wed 26-Oct-16 07:53:00

Ten years ago I used to buy most of my clothes from Next, but now I only get perhaps one or two things a year from them. There are various reasons: my shape has changed as I've got older (I'm 58) and I find Next sizes are no longer the perfect fit; the quality of the clothes has fallen dramatically; the designs are often too young for me now.
