To keep things that make me cry

Not sure whether this is the right place to post this, but I'm in the process of moving house after a separation and I'm crying at all the things I've kept that are so emotional: A scan of my third baby who i miscarried 11 years ago; evidence of my partner's affair and his secret spending; cards, love letters from when we first met, cinema tickets, diaries etc etc. . I know I need to get rid of some things to move on. I'm overwhelmed at finding them again.
What do other people do?

See this as a chance to move on. The baby scan I would put in a beautiful frame and have on display as it represents love. All the stuff that makes you unhappy, burn and you'll never think about it again.

I feel your pain by the way...

Thank you. You are right. I hold onto too many things and it's stopping me from moving on emotionally. I'm just worried I'll regret getting rid of things that were once so important.

Ask yourself why they are important ? Do they make you happy ? Do you look at them & remember fond times ? Trust me, once they are gone you just won't think about them.

I think you should read Marie Kondo The Life CHanging Magic of Tidying and then decide. Definitely keep the scan photo. If you really want to keep the otherstuff, then take a picture of it, then recycle it.

I have birthday cards from my 3rd birthday at home, OP. blush

I too need to move on.

The scan I'd keep and frame, as someone suggested. The rest I'd think about binning. smile

I am going against the trend here, but I would say keep the stuff about your ex for now. Put them in a box, tape it up and store it somewhere unobtrusive. One day you will come across them and realise he no longer has the power to hurt you. Then you will able to chuck them away without a care in the world.

The scan picture is different though. Keep that somewhere special always. flowers

Anything to do with my ex I've now binned. I feel a bit lighter already. No need to carry all of that with me from here. I'm trying to make my life more simplistic, not keep holding onto the past.

Well done OP. Wishing you every happiness from now on flowers

Well done nosocks. I was also going to recommend Marie Kondo. You probably have enough on your hands at the mo, but if you can find a couple of spare hours once you've moved it will help you decide what to make space for, especially if you're downsizing.

Congratulations on your new start flowers

I too am a kondo fan, she would have everything in the bin save the scan of your baby. You will feel liberated once all the things have gone. Best of luck op.

Thanks everyone. What about old toys, books etc. I realise I'm packing a ridiculous amount of stuff to take with me.
I've bought the book, just need to read it!
