Someone local is offering a small item free. I had been in contact with them to say I would like it. They said I could collect today "after 5.30pm" or over the weekend.
I said I'd be there today as I'm busy over the weekend.
Got to the pick-up location and nobody was there. I waited 20 mins. Got home.
I now see a message from them saying they'll be home "from 7pm".

AIBU to think that if you tell someone they can collect "after 5.30" then you're there for that time?

Nice, Meadows Hmm.

It's happened to me too, someone offered a few children's books and then didn't answer the door when I went round. Had it when I've been offering stuff too, people not turning up. I just give my stuff to a charity shop now.

Well really, it was yesterday. It was free. A little bit annoyIng but not worth going back to a thread in the morning over and asking for replies!

Really meadows? Think you may have woken up on the wrong side of the bed...

Happened to me a few times OP. Especially when they say they can collect early Saturday morning so I get up only for them not to arrive. People are quite inconsiderate. A message isn't hard.

Not really, I just don't see why anyone would waste energy still being annoyed about it the next day. They people were giving something away for FREE and they got held up. It's annoying but it's hardly worth an epic post plus follow up the next day is it? I often go out and think I will be back by a certain time then get sidetracked. I sure as hell wouldn't rush home to give someone something for free

Well, it depends what the hold up was. If I had an emergency or something important to do, my first priority wouldn't be warning the person who was coming at some unspecified time to pick up a small item. Likewise, if I was asked out for an impromptu drink with friends or something, I wouldn't say no because someone might be arriving between 5:30-7pm to pick something up. But in the latter case, I would message right away.

YABU

They attempted contact to tell you they wouldn't be able to make that time, the item is being gifted so I don't think you can have the right to expect to be treated like a customer.

Aren't you meant to arrange that it is yours and arrange a set time rather than just rock up? Like they say they are generally around after 5.30 and at the weekend. Then you still need to arrange an exact time.

I can see your point but I also think you should have confirmed a set time with them before heading over.

I messaged to say I'd be there at 6. On reviewing, she didn't reply so I guess I should have waited for a confirmation.
Ultimately I still managed to get the item and yes, I'm grateful that it was free.
I assumed she had been held up on a delayed train as this week there have been problems.

I don't often do online buy/sell which is why I asked, btw, not that I was particularly stressing over it.

Meadow I would hardly call it an epic post. The OP asked if she was BU to be annoyed. Which she is. She wasn't asking your opinions on wether she should post it. Have you seen some of the other crap people post on MN. Your life must be pretty hectic if you through the AIBU section berating everyone's post..

Nah, I just wonder sometimes how people get through the day when they are bothered by so many trivial things.
