Liquid Cannabis and other herbal life saving treatments??!??

This has popped up so much on my facebook feed about it being a cancer treatment and indeed some of the "evidence" looks compelling. In particular an old school friend who uses it to control MS symptoms (to be fair they smoked a fair bit even before MS diagnosis) keeps posting links to the wonders of liquid cannabis.

Why is it not being taken more seriously. Would you try it if it was your last resort? Would you suggest someone try it?

or AIBU to believe all the hype?

There's a licensed CBD ( cannididiol, derived from cannabis, without the psychoactive effects) product to treat MS called Sativex, and another called Epidiolex currently in trials for intractable epilepsy. Many many intractable epilepsy patients have had good results with CBD products, currently on sale perfectly legally as herbal hemp extracts. CBD has just been reclassified as a medicine because of the clinical trials but this has the knock on effect that it will become illegal for many current distributors to sell it without a medicines license. My daughter has a type of epilepsy that is often refractory to treatment, had she not been one of the lucky few that responded to anti epileptic drugs I'd definitely have tried CBD.

And some very interesting documentaries uploaded on YouTube for the positive results in treating certain types of skin cancer. A friend has MS and has cannabis prescribed to ease his symptoms.

I'm interested in finding out more about this for my DM who has chronic back pain. She's has surgeries as her discs are crumbling but they've been unsuccessful and she really suffers. She takes strong pain killers (tramodol, etc) when it gets too much but they knock her out. She's only sixty. Do you think cannabis oil could help? And if it's licensed is it something she can ask the doctor for? Or is that a dumb question?!!

Yes, cannabis does have a lot of painkilling powers. My good friend takes it, she has MS.

A lot of the other herbal remedies are shite and dangerous though, especially the ones claiming they cure cancer.

If it were available to me, yes I would try it. What sort of oil is it? Like one for e-cigs, to smoke?
Is it only available on prescription, or are there 'safe' online sellers?

FTR, I take 400mg tramadol and 4g of paracetamol daily. I don't even want to think of the long term effects of this.

AFAIK it is only licensed for MS, I.e. that's the only condition a doctor would prescribe it for currently. It has orphan drug status for Infantile Spasms, dravet syndrome and Lennox gastaut syndrome to allow the epilepsy trials. CBD can currently be bought online legally, very soon the distributor will have to have a medicines license to sell it because it's been reclassified as a medicine not a supplement, but it is legal to possess/use because it is not psychoactive, has no or very minimal THC in it.

I am on so many fucking painkillers and I hate it. If I could buy a product that was reasonably priced without having to interact with drug dealers then I would do it in a heartbeat.

There have been clinical trials of (liquid) canabis in the US and here for treatment of lung cancer tumours.

I think one of the trials was conducted at St Georges, London.

Ida I read about this. It said that if you use it as a pessiary you do not get the stoned feeling.

Like PP I do not want to start looking for a "Dealer" but struggling to deal with recurrent painful back and neck and torso spasms and wondering if I should try this? So far conventional medicines have not touched the sides.

This will hopefully catch on soon in the UK. Medical marijuana is very much a thing here in California, and we even have marijuana dispensaries. like Boots, without the fun stuff.

You can buy it in various forms. I have a friend who buys the oil and bakes brownies with it to ease the pain after SPD. Even talking to the 'chemist' is interesting

The main reason is cancer is a multi million industry and doctors/medical pharma companies thrive off it. Its sad but true. In America you pay for treatment and if you can't its more of less too bad.

There has also been cases of seizures being controlled by the oil. Unfortunately some people dismiss it because it didn't work for someone or other but there are several types of oil that work on different things not a one size fits all cure all like its been shown at times.

I know 4 people who in the past year, have ditched various pain killing drugs in favour of cannabis... my 69yr old MIL (who suffers from MS) being one of them

I only because it seems so strange to think of her as a cannabis 'user', which makes her too.

But in all honesty, they're all very happy with the 'move'. Only one of them smokes it, the other 3 bake it in cakes and bread.

A friend of mine bought cannabis oil for his Dad who is dying from lung cancer. Unfortunately it hasn't worked for him.. However I would choose "alternative" over chemo every day of the week.
I can't understand how we are still stuck with this poison that is supposed to kill cancer

So is it possible to 'take' CBD oil in any format and still be able to drive? Or would it show up in a drugs test?
Obviously, I wouldn't drive after using if it affected me in that way, but I mean legally?

"Life saving"? Pretty sure there's no evidence for that, unless you listen to randoms on the internet who usually have a vested interest.

ZoeTurtle - It's highly attributed to be a very effective pain killer. So yes, it is quality of life saving.
