AIBU to tell a little white lie to get the price of holiday down?

Been quoted almost £700 online for a post-Christmas break at a famous holiday park. It's already got some discounts taken off but it's more than £200 more than we paid for the same holiday last year (due to a mis-quote on their part!). I want to try and haggle the price down so WIBU to ring them and say I'd been quoted, say, £550 and would like to now go ahead (lie!)....WIBU or can anyone come up a tactic to bring the price down?

MerryMarigold Wed 19-Oct-16 11:11:59

Yes YWBU. That's not a little, white lie! I hate to think what you think a real lie is shock

ilovesooty Wed 19-Oct-16 11:13:46

That's not a little white lie is it?

EdmundCleverClogs Wed 19-Oct-16 11:15:26

That's not a lie, that's you trying to illegally scam a company.

HTH.

hungryhippo90 Wed 19-Oct-16 11:16:03

That's not little hun

Ausernotanumber Wed 19-Oct-16 11:16:16

That's an out and out lie.

EastMidsMummy Wed 19-Oct-16 11:17:05

"If you can show me where you were quoted that price, Madam, I'll be happy to honour it."

...is what any business that's not totally stupid would reply to you.

Yes YWBU and I agree that's not by any means a little white lie. You benefited from their mistake last year and saved money just be grateful for that. Besides unless you can prove your made up price I'd imagine they'll just tell you actually the price is £700. You've said you already had a discount if you want the holiday pay for it

murphys Wed 19-Oct-16 11:20:31

I don't understand....

You want to phone them with a quote you got LAST YEAR and say you got quoted that price now. You do realize that they will ask for the quote number and check it don't you.... It says 2015 instead of 2016 on the top.... confused

DramaInPyjamas Wed 19-Oct-16 11:21:12

Surely they would ask for evidence of this so called quote, not just turn around and say, "yeah here you go, have a big discount for no reason whatsoever"

Notso Wed 19-Oct-16 11:26:58

Why not tell them a big fat lie and say you were quoted £10, they won't check hmm

SuperFlyHigh Wed 19-Oct-16 11:32:00

very stupid and I wouldn't advise it.

SporkLife Wed 19-Oct-16 11:34:48

And when they ask fo the quote proof ? Trying to scam something isn't a little lie !

CakeThat Wed 19-Oct-16 11:35:11

Just tell them the truth and say you only paid £500 last year and ask if they can match that price.

JoJoSM2 Wed 19-Oct-16 11:36:47

Blatant lie for your financial gain. Nasty.

lastqueenofscotland Wed 19-Oct-16 11:37:53

It won't work and yes, you do have to prove the quote you got.

SortAllTheThings Wed 19-Oct-16 11:38:00

I don't think it's a scam, or a massive lie, it's just trying to get the price down.. BUT the way you're doing it is wrong and it won't work.

Just tell them you paid £500 for the same trip last year, ask them if there's anything they can do on the price. If last years price was actually a mistake/misquote then tbh I don't think you're going to get very far!

c3pu Wed 19-Oct-16 11:38:04

Speak to another provider, tell them what you've been quoted so far. Ask them if they can beat it. If yes, ring the first provider and ask them if they can beat what the other place have quoted you.

Soubriquet Wed 19-Oct-16 11:39:47

Yes. Do what Cake said

See if they can knock a bit more off that way

What you want to do is awful

harderandharder2breathe Wed 19-Oct-16 11:40:27

Yabu if you can't afford a nice holiday then you don't have one, like millions of others

LiviaDrusillaAugusta Wed 19-Oct-16 11:41:03

You could if you are happy to try to scam them but you will look quite the twat when they say 'off you go then, hope you have a good holiday with the cheaper company'

LiviaDrusillaAugusta Wed 19-Oct-16 11:41:41

And a holiday is hardly an essential thing.

JacquelineChan Wed 19-Oct-16 11:43:03

I own a travel company and we record our calls for times like this .

FRETGNIKCUF Wed 19-Oct-16 11:44:48

Driving down the price is a good idea, lying isn't.
