AIBU?

Something freaky happened and I am worried

Posting in AIBU for traffic Confused

DH and I were at a very close family member's funeral. He felt a tap on his shoulder twice and the person sitting behind him could not have done it. He's definitely not the sort of person to imagine this, he's too rational, pragmatic, sensible!

I'm freaked out by it and having googled can't find anything. What do you think?

It was Death. He will die in ten days. To avoid turn round anti clockwise seven times naked in the moonlight

Why are you worried? Have there been more taps?

I think it was someone doing that thing where they tap your shoulder and pretend it wasn't them. I do it to my kids and they fall for it every time!

Or it could've been Death.

Some people are such bastards!

Sometimes a twitch can feel like a tap.

Why do think the person behind couldn't reach? Could it have been the person the other side of him? Or was it you OP? ;)

Anyway, why so worried? Did you get on well with the family member? Maybe take it as a friendly goodbye?

who knows I think weird stuff does happen but you can never prove it, only your husband will ever really know if it was real and maybe eve he won't know for sure.

My dad is the most nonbelieving, athiest, rational man alive and he has seen ghosts although he rarely talks about it, I believe him so who knows.

Lol ok I know and thank you Iseeyourpoint but you know, I just freak out easily (he doesn't) and worry about EVERYTHING - I'm sure it's fine. No my uncle was behind him and while he's a laugh, I doubt it was him!

We get that in our house. We dont tell people, but some visitors have been really freaked out by it. Enough to mention it.
and I'm talking about non woo people; workmen and teenage boys.

If this was during the service it was probably the person behind accidentally brushing your husband with his order of service sheet dont worry about it.

OP sorry for your loss.

Not sure why your uncle couldn't have done it? Anyway funerals are stressful, you could easily have a nerve twitch etc in that situation.

Btw not sure why anyone considers teenage boys and workmen to be non woo.

Was he wearing a jacket he doesn't often wear? I find certain clothing often moves/folds in a way that creates an unexpected feeling. I have a pair of trousers that feel like a cat brushing up against my leg! It always takes me by surprise as I don't have a cat!

Was he a pall bearer? - that's a heavy weight to support and it might have made his shoulder feel strange afterwards.

Otherwise I'd put it down to tiredness stress etc making him feel an imagined sensation on his shoulder.

Who do you think was tapping - the deceased? some other woo entity? Why would you assume something with evil intent?

There probably is a plausible explanation, that's not to say I don't believe in woo, I've had some woo experiences myself. Earlier I was laying down on the bed with my son telling him a bedtime story and I felt something creep along my hand, being spider season I leapt of the bed certain it must have been - nope, the usual culpret, my hair! Try not to worry too much about it, even if it was a ghost/spirit whatever you want to call it it's unlikely to harm you.

Well... my ex is a very keen cyclist. Joined a group and they used to meet up at the same place at the same time on the same day every week! There was one member who was always ten to fifteen minutes late. Always. He always had an excuse, usually it was that he had had a puncture on the way. This went for for more than a year I understand.

Sadly said member died suddenly. Cycling club members all joined up to attend the funeral. Waited around for the hearse. It was all of fifteen minutes late. The driver of the hearse got out and apologised profusely for the delay. Said that in over 40 years of driving the hearse they have never had a puncture before!

There is more to this life than we know. I don't believe that was a coincidence. No way. That was this guys way of saying 'bye' and 'I'm okay where I am' :)

When we first moved into the house we're in now, I got smacked on the bum on two different occasions when I was changing the bedcovers - nobody else was at home Confused

Sorry for your loss op. Did the uncle say it wasn't him? Maybe it was a relative giving him a reassuring pat?

Woo things can happen around funerals. My grandpa died and all the clocks in the house stopped it the day and time of his funeral. I don't find that sort of thing very odd though.

ThreeSheetsToTheWind

That's a lovely story.

I'm a (kinda reluctant) atheist and try not to believe in supernatural things. But I do think it's nice to entertain the possibility that there is more to life than we understand.

On the day of my Grandad's funeral my grandmother came downstairs, it was a dark January morning, horrible weather outside and all the lights were inexplicably on downstairs. Later that day we followed the hearse over the beautiful Sussex Downs and as we drove by Beachy Head the grey clouds suddenly cleared and a beautiful rainbow appeared. It felt like a sign from above.

Of course it's nothing special it's just a matter of logic. If we assume that every day of the year someone is having a funeral, and some days of the year there is a rainbow, then logically speaking some days of the year a funeral and a rainbow will happen at the same time.

But it still feels special and there's nothing wrong with taking a special meaning from it if things like this evoke certain emotions in you. I will certainly never forget that moment of my life until the day I die - it was a beautiful moment.

I don't believe in any of this after life barmy rubbish stuff. BUT I still wonder who gently stroked my cheek the night I brought my baby home from the hospital. Nobody else was in the room. Was I half asleep and dreaming? I had my eyes closed and I opened them thinking it was my DH. Nobody there. I like to think it was one particular family member who had passed away but I know it wasn't.
