To ask what your 10 month old can do?

My dd was nearly 7 weeks prem and I'm just wondering to what extent it's likely to affect her development and if she's already behind. I already have ds but he is 7 and I can't remember what he did when!
I'd like to think that she'd reach all the normal milestones albeit 7 weeks 'late' but I know prem development isn't linear like that.

My dd is:
Crawling
Pulling to stand but not cruising
Clapping and blowing kisses but not waving
Understands a few instructional words - such as 'where's your X' or 'clap your hands,' or 'give me the toy.'
Is babbling and making lots of sounds but no words.
If she says a sound and I repeat it she will repeat it back to me. She will do this for quite a long time.
Fine motor is pretty good. Can pick up teeny tiny things no problem and uses a pincer grip
Will play peepo round the door
Pretends to feed me. (Think this is hilarious)

However my wonder weeks app says that at her non-adjusted age of nearly 10 months she should be able to do a 3 piece puzzle?! No way are we anywhere near that. she doesn't shape sort or ring stack or anything. She rarely puts objects in a container, only takes them out. It also says they may start to attempt to put their own socks on. All I have to say to this is ha ha ha. Dd might pull her socks off or scream whilst I'm trying to put them on in the first place but that's it.

I don't know if she'd get any early intervention or if it's just a case of waiting and seeing if the prematurity has had any long term detrimental effects and dealing with it then.

Ha! My nearly 3 year old doesn't try to pull his own socks on. Plus, he didn't even try to talk until nearly 18 months, and wasn't pulling himself up until closer to a year. Your DD sounds like she is doing really well.

3 piece puzzle at 10 months? hahahahaha. That's bonkers. My 18 month old, about whom I have no concerns at all, could not do that. She is just about beginning shape sorting and ring stacking. She attempts to put her own socks on but hasn't a chance of actually doing it. And she's 18 months!

Honestly your DD sounds like she is doing fabulously. Having had a 6 week prem DD (now 4) I know how much I watched development so I do understand, but really she sounds fine.

Dd is 2 tomorrow and has got the idea of puzzles over the last month, maybe 2 at a push

The Wonder Weeks are, from my experience, so much nonsense (I know some people swear by them.) Not one of mine has followed them in any way. I wouldn't worry, your daughter sounds fine!

Sounds like she's doing brilliantly!

My son is 20 months and still isn't talking. Doesn't do puzzles. Can't sort shapes etc.

I can't say I'm worried. He'll get there eventually :)

I remember being surprised by that wonder weeks suggestion too... Your dd sounds fantastic for 10 months. My ds, now 2 and exceeding all his milestones, was only barely crawling at 9 months, didn't babble, didn't wave or blow kisses. He certainly wasn't trying to put on socks. He still doesn't!

Your dd is fab so don't pay too much attention to the at times unrealistic wonder weeks skills...

I can't remember the age it applied to but I remember being similarly taken aback by one section which said that by a particular age if you asked them how tall they were they'd put their hand up to show you. They really don't unless you've coached them to. Just to warn you!

DN was born at 7 mths due to igr. He was crawling, eating, teething (had 2 teeth) and toddling by 10 months. He wasn't babbling though - he didn't even start until 12 mths.

Yes Bingle - that's at 10 months too!!

Dd has 6 teeth so eats quite well, although tends to take giant bites with the front teeth and then be stuck with it as she has no back teeth.
I can't remember what ds did when, but the WW worried me a little.

My 9 month old can sound dada and mama, can take a few steps independently.
Plays peekaboo, crawling and sits up no problem.
But puzzles hell no, she just enjoys eating them lol.

Mine were only just crawling at ten months and neither could pull themselves up to standing.

A three piece puzzle? Holy shit

Sounds to me like your DD is doing very well. Adjusted age is generally used until the age of 2, so for her adjusted age, she is doing brilliantly, especially with the social interaction.

I very much doubt my nearly 16 month old could do a 3 piece puzzle. And I have no concerns over his development

Hi, if you google the EYFS you can find a frame work which nurseries all work alongside to check their children and babies are developing pretty much at the right pace (and show any areas that need work on!). If you've got any concerns you can check that but to me your daughter seems to be doing really well! :)

A 3 piece puzzle?!
DS2 is just 11 months and is quite advanced and has been very quick to do pretty much everything - but a puzzle?! Come the fuck on!

Your DD sounds absolutely spot on for her age, take no notice of that app!

Your DD sounds like she's doing so well. My 10 month old can walk. But, perhaps doesn't have the level of communication your daughter has. They all do things at different stages.

There is no chance my DD could do a 3 piece puzzle !!

Each child develops differently. She understand and get the puzzle but at the moment is more interesting in feeding you. Just relax op. She sounds perfect!

I have no idea what wonder weeks is but sounds to me like you should sack it off. I think your DD is doing wonderfully. My DD is just over 2 and has been quite 'forward' I believe in her development but I reckon she could only do the same stuff at 10 months. She still shows no interest in getting herself dressed but does love a puzzle.

Dd is nearly 10 months and does some things better and some worse.

She's almost walking, says 'mama' and 'dada' and understands a few key sentences, usually ones about food/milk.

She definitely won't play peepo, copy any sounds or blow kisses though.

Also, 3 piece puzzle? HAHAHAHAHAHA!
